Pros
1
Highly responsive and communicative attorney who keeps clients informed throughout the legal process
“Extremely responsive and proactive. I found myself in need of legal help, and reach out to Mr. Hill through a personal reference. We set up an appointment for the very next day, and he drove across town to meet me... in a day where even doctors don't make house calls, this man did.”
2
Achieves favorable outcomes for clients, even in complex cases
“Dan Hill took great care of me when I was in a pinch with a citation. I highly recommend their services if you are looking for a legal team that is understanding and ready to help.”
3
Empathetic and understanding approach that puts clients at ease
“Ive never actually have had to use a lawyer ever in my life. However, because the court system arrest my fiancĂ© (who is a 3x war veteran from the Marine Corp) for a warrant (we had no idea. we got pulled over for a traffic violation) the day after Christmas and also the same day we put our service dog down. I was lost, alone and unsure what I was suppose to do. Dan called me back late the same night and explained to me how things are likely gonna go. It was also the holiday weekend things might not go as fast as because of it. I walked into his office to sign paperwork and explain to him what happen. He was nothing but understanding and was so kind to offer me bailing my fiancĂ©'s out of jail before paying him.”
4
Skilled litigator with a proven track record of success in court
“Dan Hill is incredibly sharp, friendly, and reliable. I'm a Las Vegas attorney who has consulted with Dan on matters outside my scope of practice. He would be my first call if I were looking for an attorney for representation.”
5
Reasonable and transparent pricing
“Mr Hill was an unexpected blessing to me and my husband. He was innovative, well taught and informed.”
Cons
1
Isolated complaints of poor communication and lack of responsiveness from the attorney
“Do not hire this guy. I hired him because my mom's friend used to work for him and she recommended him to us, plus I saw he got good reviews (which is shocking after how he treated me). I am reporting him to the state bar. He lied to me constantly, never responded to my calls or texts, when you call his office he's never in, he will show up to your court dates late and looks completely lost and not prepared, scrambling through his paperwork and when they ask if he's ready he laughs and says "no".”
2
Occasional issues with the attorney or staff not showing up to court dates as scheduled
“The very few times I got to speak to him he told me he would do things that never got done. He didn't work on my case whatsoever and had zero decency to answer any of my questions or concerns. He doesn't care about his clients, just their money.”

I want to thank Dan, for making everything super easy for me. From the moment I hired him as my lawyer he put my mind at ease. He was straight forward and honest, and he got the job done. He was able to get my DUI offense dropped down to a reckless driving charge. I am forever grateful for him and I would definitely recommend him to anyone going through a DUI case. He is affordable and reliable, what more can you ask for?!?! Thank you so much Dan!

It was a pleasure working with this personal injury law firm. As a result of the expert guidance and care that I received from their team, I was guided through my motor vehicle accident case. It was a real pleasure to work with Dan and his team. They were down-to-earth, easy to speak with, and truly focused on what was best for me. My case manager, Heldder, was extremely professional. He remained in constant communication with me during the entire process. My property damage claim was handled efficiently, and they ensured that the necessary medical treatment was provided to me as soon as possible. I truly believe they stand out from the rest due to their top-notch service, compassionate approach, and dedication to my case. I strongly recommend this law firm to anyone who is in need of phenomenal legal representation for a personal injury case. I have not hesitated to recommend them to not only my friends and family, but clients I meet at my own workplace. Thank you so much, Dan and Heldder! Look forward to working with you again soon... not too soon, though!

I had the liberty to work with Cody on a multi unit case stemming for disclosure issues and Cody was instrumental in getting me a settlement in a short amount of time. He was on the case since day 1 and along with Terrry Moore these 2 attorneys are super knowledgeable with the current real estate laws in Vegas. Not only that they are very reputable based on their billings and the efficiency and results they bring. I would not hesitate to consult and utilize Cody's expertise next time in any real estate matter.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Las Vegas, Nevada?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
