Before retaining a lawyer and filing for divorce, many people warned me that lawyers were soulless, especially in Las Vegas, and only concerned with lining their pockets with my money. I was told horror story after horror story from people who've dealt with lawyers here in Vegas. Scary stuff! Fortunately, not only was this NOT my experience at all, but my interactions with McFarling Law Group was, in fact, the best experience with lawyers I have ever heard of! McFarling Law Group is the absolute BEST law firm in Las Vegas, BOTH HANDS DOWN!! Not only are they determined to fight for you and win, but they actually care about the people they are fighting for. I was divorcing a certifiable, textbook narcissist. When I first met with Emily McFarling, I was in a tight spot financially and could not pay her entire retainer. Emily gave me a significant discount so that I could secure McFarling Law Group as my counsel. My ex-husband hid money and assets, got people to forge documents and falsify information, lied throughout the case and caused the case to be prolonged many times by not following the judge's orders and by not submitting requested, subpoenaed documentation. McFarling Law Group made sure to get judgments against him for this. This case went on for years! This, along with circumstances due to the Covid pandemic, eventually drove me into bankruptcy. Although I owed several tens of thousands of dollars to McFarling Law Group, when I consulted with them about having to file bankruptcy, they supported me in doing so even though it meant that my bill for their services at the time would be totally discharged. They also further reassured me that I would not lose their counsel because of this and they were true to their word. We finally ended up settling before the trial was to begin. One of the agreements in the settlement was for my ex-husband to pay them. Anything that was left over for me to pay, they completely wrote it off and cleared my entire balance! They held my hand through years of litigation, stood beside me, and fought for me the entire time. I had a team of various lawyers and paralegals working on my case. There was not one time that I reached out to them and was not able to get a hold of them. The communication was great and they always updated me on any new occurrences involving my case. I can not thank them enough for everything they've done for me. They were truly a godsend and I will NEVER forget the kindness they showed me, nor the fight and tenacity they exhibited throughout my entire case. I am grateful beyond words and from the bottom of my heart appreciate each and every person who worked on my case over the years. I will be singing their praises and recommending them every chance I get. So, if you want to be represented by lawyers with REAL fight, grit and determination, with never-ending-endurance and ingenious, strategic know-how, who yet maintain their compassion and humanity towards those they fight for, there is none better than McFarling Law Group! You can feel the difference! You can see the difference! And, their rankings and ratings in Las Vegas speak for itself!

Emily, Has done a lot for my appeal custody/ paternity case. Emily took that challenge and was there for me through the process, she explained everything and just did a great job! I have been fighting my case for 5 years and Emily represented me and did an awesome job that without her and the McFarling group I would have not got what I have with my kids. I would definitely recommend her to anyone especially custodial cases. Thank you again!

My experience with Emily and her entire team has been amazing. They put up with me and my overthinking and stress and knew how to handle everything. I didn’t feel judged or neglected. They were there for everything and truly saved me and always had my children’s best interest. My family and I will be forever grateful. With respect I hope we won’t have to see each other in the future and I know you all are hoping we don’t haha but if we do... I know I can count on you, Seriously thank you!

My experience with Ms. Emily has been amazing. When I was introduced to her from my first attorney (Jessica K Peterson) who became a judge. I was nervous and sad to lose Jessica, but she informed me that I would be in great hands and Emily and Kimber would take good care of me. Well, she was right! Emily seemed so genuine and full of knowledge. She was sympathetic, extremely intelligent, she paid attention to my case, she made sure that I was in great hands with any decision that was made. My case was settled and the final degree was a dream come true. I won full custody of my son and was able to relocate with my son to Georgia. The battle was very well worth it. Emily and Kimber from Mcfarling Law are the best. Thank you Emily, I am so blessed to work with your firm.

I don't bother to write reviews, but I felt like I needed to after such a positive experience with The Bunker Law Group. Ben was very professional, showed great knowledge for the work I had him do, and finished it in half the time I thought it would take him. Ben exceeded my expectations in every category. 5 Stars all around. Highly recommended.

Gabrielle Jones is a compassionate, professional attorney that works hard for her clients. I am fortunate to have been referred to her, and I don't think anyone could have handled my divorce, custody, and support issues as seamlessly as she did. She took SO much weight off my shoulders. I HIGHLY recommend her!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Las Vegas, Nevada?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
