“For the first time in my 60 years, I finally experienced what it is like to have legal representation that I absolutely knew and felt were unequivocally advocating in my best interest! From our initial consultation on a difficult worker’s comp case, to a successful resolution that spanned several years, Attorney Grauel and his outstanding paralegal Diane were in my corner every step of the way. They fully explained the laws that govern workers comp in NH, and how those laws would and did apply to my case. The calm guidance and advice without all the over-hype allowed me to make informed decisions without feeling pressured. In addition to getting my workers comp case settled, Doug and Diane also took an active role while assisting me to clear all the hurdles required to secure and receive Social Security disability benefits, an effort for which I cannot thank them enough!” I you have a worker’s comp case you absolutely need to be represented, and I highly recommend the Grauel Law Office! Sincerely, Dave

I hurt my knee on the job in 2016. The workers comp insurance company agreed that the knee was injured on the job and paid for PT and a meniscus operation. I was still in pain after the operation and insisted on another MRI. It was determined that I would need a total knee replacement operation. The insurance company told me "you don't need a lawyer" , then their lawyer sent me a notice that I needed to go to an Independent Medical Examination. That's when I found Doug on the internet. Long story less long, he took my case and won unanimous decisions with four mediators at two different hearings at the Department of Labor. I got my knee replaced after 2+ years from the initial accident and Doug was amazing. Highly recommend his services. I would not have prevailed without him.

I had injuries at work, and it can be intimidating to deal with your employer and the workers comp carrier. Doug explained the law clearly, answered all my questions, and he fought for my rights under the wc laws, which I did not know. He is very professional and down to earth, he listens to you and cares about your situation. Then he forms a plan to ensure your rights are respected and will fight for you. I thank God I found Doug, after suffering injuries at work and the workers comp carrier started hassling me, Doug fought for me all the way. His paralegal Diane is awesome, and I am grateful and very thankful I had them on my side. Anyone having trouble with workers comp after being injured at work should call Doug for a consultation!

Doug Grauel has been my lawyer for almost 3 yrs now. It is terrible when you have no where to turn to when you are hurt really bad at work and are going up against a large company and their insurance company. You find out really quick they are only interested in money and how much they can save and could care less about the employee or how badly he is hurt.Well I had to find a lawyer and thank God I found Doug. He did not allow the ins. co. to take advantage of me and they tried many times.Doug and his staff fought for me everyday and they do not treat you like a client they treat you like family. Even when my case is finally over I will keep in contact with Doug and Dianne because of the way they treated me through this whole process. Doug also keeps you informed every step of the way and answers all questions and concerns. I cannot give high enough praises for Doug and his staff I would highly recommend them to anyone. They truly are a God send. They made an extremely difficult and painful situation much better. You will not find a better lawyer anywhere Thanks Ronald

I am an out-of-state father that just won primary residential custody of my three children from a "stay-at-home mom" in New Hampshire Family Court. Thanks to Robyn's incredible efforts as my attorney, I now have my children living with me in Washington 11 months of the year, have sole authority to dispose of the marital real estate, and sole decision-making authority to make decisions about my children's lives that are in their best interests. Throughout the case, Robyn passionately advocated for me with the Court and the Guardian ad Litem, and she counseled me well through this very personal and emotional situation.

Months after an injury that just would not heal, I contacted Attorney Neil Nicholson, for some clarity and guidance. From our very first meeting I knew I had contacted the right person. Clarity about the process and honesty and integrity are what I got from Attorney Nicholson. He clearly explained the process, the options and what the litigation would be like. Both Attorney Nicholson and paralegal Brittany Donovan kept me up-to-date, patiently explained answers to my many questions, and responded quickly to all of my concerns. I would have considered all of that to have been enough and great service, but it didn’t stop there. In every communication with them, their sincere compassion and integrity shone through, and the peace of mind this gave me is what I feel makes them top-notch. I would not hesitate to recommend Attorney Neil Nicholson and his firm to family, friends or anyone needing legal representation. In my opinion, they are the best.

Atty Nicholson took a very complex legal case of ours in 2018, when the odds were stacked against us, and successfully worked to get my husband a pardon from the Governor of NH for crimes committed as a youth. Communication was frequent, and calls/emails were always promptly responded to. He was extremely knowledgable of the law and was able to articulate himself well in court. He kept us well informed of case developments and helped our family understand the legal process, making us feel like family. I would highly recommend his law firm!

Michael Noonan and his staff did a great job for me during a personal injury case. Michael is a lawyer that will fight for you and not back down. Also willing to take the case to trial to fight for what the case is worth. I was being low balled by the insurance company with an extremely low offer. Michael was able to collect the entire policy limit in less then 4 months after i turned my case over to him. I would recommend him to anyone with a personal injury case in the area. I interviewed many lawyers in the area and Michael was hands down the best. Don't hire a lawyer that will settle for less then your case is worth.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Concord, New Hampshire?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
