Cons
1
Lack of communication and follow-up from the lawyer's office

2
Client felt let down and caused more stress due to lack of support
“That makes me wonder , is he the only attorney working in your offices. Mr.Leonard ??? If he is sick we understand and we wish to him good luck. My wife has suffered enough and we do not want that a lawyer office make it worst instead of helping her to bring the justice.”

I had the very best experience with this firm. I was rear ended in a car accident in Concord NH. I was I was injured and endured great pain. I was a hairdresser and owned my salon and had to give it up due to my injuries. They never gave up trying to help me. I would highly recommend Douglas Leonard&Garvey. I appreciate them and they are very understanding and easy to talk to. They saved my life. I’m forever grateful.

I hired Attorney Leonard to represent me in a rear end collision. Not knowing what my rights were, he explained in detail the complete process. I left his office knowing I was well represented. The case eventually was settled, and I am happy to say, I got the best settlement possible. I would fully recommend him to all my family!

I moved to Concord, NH from Long Island, NY in 2015. I was in a car accident in 2013. The injuries I sustained left me with a permanent disability. I am a very active person. An athlete, yogi, runner, bicyclist, hiker, walker etc. The work I did my whole career was very active work as well. I was a personal trainer and supplemented my income with waiting on tables, which gave me the bulk of my income. Because of my injuries I could no longer do that line of work. I was searching for work in the field I knew that did not require me to be so active. This was a very challenging time for me. I had landed a job when I first moved to Concord and was fired 30 days into it because of my disability. I researched lawyers on line and found Kevin. He was awesome from the beginning. Always took the time to explain things to me. Responded in a timely manner and was spot on when predicting what would happen. What he said would happen, happened. He was articulate, friendly, honest, straight forward, a great guy in my mind. The outcome of my case were great. A few months later in my job search I was refused a position because of my disability and reached out to Kevin again for help. He was busy at the time, but took on the case and the outcome again was great for me. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Kevin. He made my challenging experiences much easier to bare. I am proud to say he represented me and would recommend him very highly. Lorna

I and my wife , we are very disappointed . After reading good reviews here . we've chosen Kevin Leonard Office to take care of my wife discrimination case. After calling the office and talking to secretary , we received a phone call on next 2 days. A gentleman name Jason contacted us , gathered the info we sent immediately all paperwork. Then no call no follow up, I called him on following days just to follow left voicemail, and left message with reception lady. Still no answer . After more than 4 weeks ! I receive a letter from Jason saying that he is not able to do our case because of medical issues , and nothing further....!!! That makes me wonder , is he the only attorney working in your offices. Mr.Leonard ??? If he is sick we understand and we wish to him good luck. But leave us with no feedback for over 4 weeks or maybe more and surprise my wife with such letter that doesn't make any sense and that is no acceptable. My wife has suffered enough and we do not want that a lawyer office make it worst instead of helping her to bring the justice. I need Mr Leonard to contact me directly . It is impossible to get on hold of you..! You need to fix this problem . Your employee has cost us valuable time and make my spouse more stressed ...and this need to be straighten up before we move forward and and contact general attorney or whoever protect client from lawyers discrimination and abuse. Thanks . I'll be waiting for your call.

I am an out-of-state father that just won primary residential custody of my three children from a "stay-at-home mom" in New Hampshire Family Court. Thanks to Robyn's incredible efforts as my attorney, I now have my children living with me in Washington 11 months of the year, have sole authority to dispose of the marital real estate, and sole decision-making authority to make decisions about my children's lives that are in their best interests. Throughout the case, Robyn passionately advocated for me with the Court and the Guardian ad Litem, and she counseled me well through this very personal and emotional situation.

Months after an injury that just would not heal, I contacted Attorney Neil Nicholson, for some clarity and guidance. From our very first meeting I knew I had contacted the right person. Clarity about the process and honesty and integrity are what I got from Attorney Nicholson. He clearly explained the process, the options and what the litigation would be like. Both Attorney Nicholson and paralegal Brittany Donovan kept me up-to-date, patiently explained answers to my many questions, and responded quickly to all of my concerns. I would have considered all of that to have been enough and great service, but it didn’t stop there. In every communication with them, their sincere compassion and integrity shone through, and the peace of mind this gave me is what I feel makes them top-notch. I would not hesitate to recommend Attorney Neil Nicholson and his firm to family, friends or anyone needing legal representation. In my opinion, they are the best.

Atty Nicholson took a very complex legal case of ours in 2018, when the odds were stacked against us, and successfully worked to get my husband a pardon from the Governor of NH for crimes committed as a youth. Communication was frequent, and calls/emails were always promptly responded to. He was extremely knowledgable of the law and was able to articulate himself well in court. He kept us well informed of case developments and helped our family understand the legal process, making us feel like family. I would highly recommend his law firm!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Concord, New Hampshire?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
