We hired Kim for a custody case for our 2 year old Granddaughter , after some other lawyer we had screwed everything up . She came right in and took over in the middle of a nasty battle. And proved to the court exactly what my granddaughters best interests where. She did what she said she would do and we will never forget her saving our granddaughter from a life of horror. We are so grateful to have met Kim !!!

I have used Kim twice in my Child Custody, Visitation & Child Support hearings. She is knowledgeable and reliable, but also cared about the client (clients) and their best interest. She can also be aggressive if need be. SHE IS MY ROCK! I will use no other attorney!

Kim was a pleasure to work with, answered all my questions and listened to all my concerns. She was sympathetic and easy to talk to. She was very flexible about meeting times and was always there when she said she was going to be. I would definetly use her again if I ever needed to and recommend her to others

I am an out-of-state father that just won primary residential custody of my three children from a "stay-at-home mom" in New Hampshire Family Court. Thanks to Robyn's incredible efforts as my attorney, I now have my children living with me in Washington 11 months of the year, have sole authority to dispose of the marital real estate, and sole decision-making authority to make decisions about my children's lives that are in their best interests. Throughout the case, Robyn passionately advocated for me with the Court and the Guardian ad Litem, and she counseled me well through this very personal and emotional situation.

Neil and Brittany got me a great settlement from an auto accident, and went above and beyond to make sure that I received every dollar possible. During the whole process they kept me well informed, and I felt fully taken care of. My case turned out to have a lot of complexity and surprises, but theyhandled everything with ease. If you’re considering them, I can confidently say that you’ll be in very good hands. Highly recommended!

Neil and his team were a pleasure to work with. They incredibly transparent and patient, and made sure to be crystal clear while explaining everything we were doing. I never felt pressured in anyway and all in all I would absolutely recommend Neil and his team!

Months after an injury that just would not heal, I contacted Attorney Neil Nicholson, for some clarity and guidance. From our very first meeting I knew I had contacted the right person. Clarity about the process and honesty and integrity are what I got from Attorney Nicholson. He clearly explained the process, the options and what the litigation would be like. Both Attorney Nicholson and paralegal Brittany Donovan kept me up-to-date, patiently explained answers to my many questions, and responded quickly to all of my concerns. I would have considered all of that to have been enough and great service, but it didn’t stop there. In every communication with them, their sincere compassion and integrity shone through, and the peace of mind this gave me is what I feel makes them top-notch. I would not hesitate to recommend Attorney Neil Nicholson and his firm to family, friends or anyone needing legal representation. In my opinion, they are the best.

Tim McLaughlin helped us navigate a couple complex legal scenarios effectively, efficiently, and with favorable outcomes over the last couple years. He consistently demonstrated his experience and significant knowledge, but did not hesitate to consult other attorneys in his practice or to engage external specialists as needed to ensure the outcome of our legal matters. I highly recommend his services.

We have been working with Attorney Tim McLaughlin for nearly 6 months and his level of professionalism and care for his clients concerns is exceptional. He is incredibly knowledgeable in his field but is able to speak with ease about legal matters in language that is understandable to those with little legal knowledge. He has tenacity, he is creative in his approach and possesses as much integrity as anyone I have ever encountered. He is trustworthy, honest and hardworking. It is easy to see that he has our best interest at heart at all times. Attorney McLaughlin is easily accessible to his clients by phone and e mail and we have never had to wait more than a few hours to hear back from a voice message left for him or an e mail sent. When the need arose for us to seek advice on a separate legal matter, Tim did not hesitate to tell us that what we needed was out of his expertise and immediately referred us to his associate within the firm who specializes in the field that we needed. We would 100% recommend Attorney Tim McLaughlin without the least hesitation.

Mr. McLaughlin is an exceptional attorney who makes you feel as though you are his only client. He assisted in developing maritime law policies for my maritime security company. What I really liked about Tim was that he did not hesitate to tell me when he was out of his area expertise and offered a more cost effective solution to my inquiry. Mr. McLaughlin has been more than attentive and exceptionally responsive to my every question. I am more than satisfied with the work that Tim has done in the past and will not hesitate to call on him in the future. His professionalism and attention to detail have been a great reminder that a higher of standard of quality is still out there, all be it - rare. I recommend him to the highest degree.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Concord, New Hampshire?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
