I highly recommend Attorney Tina Annis. She prepared Wills and a Trust for my family. Her work is excellent. She returns phone calls and responds to emails promptly Her rates are reasonable and she and her staff work efficiently. I found Attorney Annis to be very knowledgeable and friendly. She is able to explain complex information in a simple, understandable, and approachable way. She answered all of my questions and I felt very comfortable with the whole process. I had heard from others that the firm Annis & Zellers has a positive reputation in our community, and my experience is that this is well deserved. I would not hesitate to recommend this attorney to other friends and family.

It is obvious Tina Annis is only interested in running the clock and making a buck. She is NOT interested in listening to the needs and concerns of her potential clients. It is at a level that is frankly unprofessional and shameful - just blatant and as we have found, unapologetic. If she thinks she can talk circles around you, she will try to weasel you out of your money. She may eventually get the job done but she sure walks you around the block a few times as well. She has you fill out paperwork describing needs and other parameters around the topic at hand prior to the paid-for time together - great. However, it is clear she did not read this before the session. Instead of discussing the matter, I had to re-explain everything that I had written down and then she objected to most of the changes I was making to my will. Her comments were off topic and unprofessional. I was extremely disappointed with her strong, rude attitude. I did not continue after that expensive session. I hired a new lawyer and got through this straight forward task simply and easily.

I have been a client of Annis & Zellers for over 8 years. They not only helped me with my personal estate planning but have also guided my grandmother through some very challenging estate situations. Tina and Jeff are an amazing team and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I have yet to find a problem that they were not able to solve for me!

I am an out-of-state father that just won primary residential custody of my three children from a "stay-at-home mom" in New Hampshire Family Court. Thanks to Robyn's incredible efforts as my attorney, I now have my children living with me in Washington 11 months of the year, have sole authority to dispose of the marital real estate, and sole decision-making authority to make decisions about my children's lives that are in their best interests. Throughout the case, Robyn passionately advocated for me with the Court and the Guardian ad Litem, and she counseled me well through this very personal and emotional situation.

Months after an injury that just would not heal, I contacted Attorney Neil Nicholson, for some clarity and guidance. From our very first meeting I knew I had contacted the right person. Clarity about the process and honesty and integrity are what I got from Attorney Nicholson. He clearly explained the process, the options and what the litigation would be like. Both Attorney Nicholson and paralegal Brittany Donovan kept me up-to-date, patiently explained answers to my many questions, and responded quickly to all of my concerns. I would have considered all of that to have been enough and great service, but it didn’t stop there. In every communication with them, their sincere compassion and integrity shone through, and the peace of mind this gave me is what I feel makes them top-notch. I would not hesitate to recommend Attorney Neil Nicholson and his firm to family, friends or anyone needing legal representation. In my opinion, they are the best.

Atty Nicholson took a very complex legal case of ours in 2018, when the odds were stacked against us, and successfully worked to get my husband a pardon from the Governor of NH for crimes committed as a youth. Communication was frequent, and calls/emails were always promptly responded to. He was extremely knowledgable of the law and was able to articulate himself well in court. He kept us well informed of case developments and helped our family understand the legal process, making us feel like family. I would highly recommend his law firm!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Concord, New Hampshire?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
