Pros
1
Excellent criminal defense attorney with a strong track record of successful outcomes
“Richard worked long and hard to get what prosecution thought was good key evidence thrown out. He found an expert witness who refuted the validity of that evidence. Richard filed several long motions objecting to the evidence. After a two-day hearing, before the trial, the judge threw that evidence out of the case. This is what led to the prosecution dropping the manslaughter charge just before the start of the trial.”
2
Thorough, knowledgeable, and dedicated to his clients' cases
“Attorney Guerriero and his top notch paralegal used their extensive law knowledge, skill, and experience to get me through one of the most difficult periods of my life.”
3
Communicates well and keeps clients informed throughout the process
“Richard and Kristen were both understanding and supportive while guiding us through a difficult time. He took the time to get to know our son, his individual situation and how he could facilitate the best possible outcome for him.”
4
Honest and realistic in setting client expectations
“Richard was honest and straightforward. He made no promises about the outcome of the case but I always felt he was fighting for me.”
5
Provides compassionate and personalized service
“First, and foremost, Richard treated my son with respect and dignity throughout the whole process. He also treated me (Mom) with respect and kept me in the loop.”

I selected Attorney Richard Guerriero to represent me in a civil but highly embarrassing court appearance. The case was one that in today's climate the deck cards are automatically stacked against you. The case required a sensitive approach but thorough examination of events that needed to be presented to the court thoughtfully but also with a high degree of sensitivity and skill. Richard's analytical and chronological exploration of circumstances, framing judicial law and language against each and every circumstance and accusation, allowed for the court to see past what in today's climate would normally be a 'no win situation' into a clearly defined contrary position to the accusations, thus rendering a dismissal by the court. I found his staff to be highly supportive and extremely helpful with using technology to gather evidence to assist in the case. As for Richard, he was very generous with his time and I found his assessments of the potential trial outcomes to be fair and honest, not overpromising results and thus setting expectations accordingly. I would HIGHLY recommend Attorney Guerriero to anyone needing legal representation.

I was scared, and i did not know where to turn. I was looking for an Attorney who would actually take an interest in my case. I chose Richard Guerriero. I made a call, and Kristen his Paralegal called me back, She took notes as to what was going on with my case. She took a personal interest as well. She promised that Richard would call me back, and that is what he did. He made an appointment with me. I told him my side of the story. He showed he cared. Both Kristen and Richard made sure I went home, My case was dismissed. They both did everything I asked. I was more than satisfied.

Richard and Kristen are professional, knowledgeable, and responsive. It is clear to me that Richard was thorough in gathering evidence to use on my behalf as the charge was recently dismissed. I felt confident of a positive outcome when speaking to Richard about my case. I might further add that Richard represented me Pro Bono and I never once felt like I was less of a priority. I would highly recommend this firm.

Susan Lachman recently represented me and I could not have been more pleased with her. I am in Houston and my case was being heard in New Hampshire so you can only imagine a scenario where there is late information and miscommunication, but there was none. Susan and her assistant Krystal kept me informed of changes and abreast of any and all happenings by the court and my ex-wife's attorney. When the proceedings were over I felt that the outcome was fair and reasonable. I would certainly recommend her to others.

The day I walked into Matt's office for the first time for my personal injury appointment almost never happened. That day I had just received my accident report from state police and it stated that I was responsible for the tractor trailer driver's accident. I was in an accident on I91 and suffered cervical spinal cord damage. I was shocked to read that on the report because no ticket was issued. Matt was very easy to talk to while explaining my side to him--his positive and reassuring attitude was calming. By the time my appointment ended, Matt was my counsel and not only did I have a chance--he ended up over time negotiating a settlement on our terms! I can't say enough about his experience and expertise! I 100% recommend Newborn Law for anyone needing legal counsel for personal injury!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Keene, New Hampshire?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
