Seth helped me with a personal injury case. He kept in contact with me throughout the entire process. He was great with returning phone calls and following up with me. He made sure to update me whenever there was new information regarding my case. He exceeded my expectations and helped me win my case. I wouldn’t hesitate to have him represent me again!!

Seth Kreiner was a magnificent lawyer at a time when I needed him most. Seth received a satisfactory result and I am most impressed with his professionalism and honesty with me. Not only was he able to defend me from a company that wrongfully terminated me but stood by my side fighting until the end. I am eternally grateful for his service and I highly recommend Seth Kreiner without reservation.

I had an employment related case about a year ago. Although some lawyers thought it would be hard to prove that I was terminated because of discrimination, Seth accepted my case. He was very sharp, knowledgeable, patient and professional, and most of all, he was really kind. He was not the type of aggressive lawyer, but he definitely got things done in his own polite yet effective ways. My previous employer totally ignored my claim before Seth stepped in. He immediately found the right party to talk to and started negotiating on my case. In the end, I got a very good settlement that I deserved. It was really great service and I would highly recommend Seth. In addition, the fee was contingent and the amount was very reasonable, unlike some lawyers who charge a ridiculous amount even before they sit down to talk with you. While I was dealing with one of the worst situations in life, it was a great and pleasant experience working with Seth!

Seth is the second divorce lawyer I had to find for my case. The first lawyer was not very honest with me and overcharged me. I found Seth through avvo, what a turn over! My case is closing for good now. I would like to say that Seth deserves all the great comments! First of all, Seth is very honest and considerate. I am from another country and he was so patient with me, and explained everything so simply along with saving me a ton of money not pushing me to court, and resolved the overcharge bill issue with my previous lawyer. Second, Seth is very professional with great knowledge. I feel so lucky to find Seth to take over my divorce case, and I can’t imagine how much longer my case would have been dragged on with my previous lawyer who was trying to litigate everything. Instead, every step Seth takes is to push my case to a very positive direction, and to save time, energy and money. Third, Seth is very dedicated with his work. It's hard to find lawyers who can even take your phone calls, reply your emails on the weekends and holidays, but Seth is one of those. He cares about his client, he follows up with his clients with all the concerns, and he fights the best for his clients. I got very upset couple times during the divorce with some issues on the weekend, and I wrote emails to him regarding the matter. He called me right away when he saw my emails, he explained the issue and comforted me in a proper way, to make sure I will have a good weekend, not even worrying about the matter. He is so kind to make you feel like he is your good friend and family. I can't say good enough about Seth! I would love to recommend him to everyone who is going through divorce. He is absolutely the best! If you have any questions, please message me anytime!

Seth is the most honest and helpful attorney I know! I found him thru avvo and although the case was out of his area, he still managed not only to give some legal direction but HELP ME LOOK FOR OTHER ATTORNEYS!!!! HE TOOK TIME OUT OF HIS BUSY SCHEDULE ON MORE THAN 1 OCCASION TO RETURN MY CALL AND EMAIL! He told me upfront about not being able to take my case instead of taking my money and not helping! Very reliable also, if he says he will call you back he will do so! In the end he checked up on me to see if everything went well! I will most definitely refer him to anyone!

Mr. Rohde has the unique qualifications of not only being an excellent lawyer who knows estate and elder law, but he’s also has an excellent financial background… I believe he is also a CPA. Having expertise in both areas made it possible to get through my families estate planning without the need to get the accountant involved. With both the legal and financial impact of our decisions readily available to us, we were able to quickly determine the best course of action for our situation. Mr. Rohde is an expert at explaining complex situations in terms the layperson can understand. He took whatever time was necessary to be sure both my father and I understood every aspect of what we were doing. One of the most patient people I have ever met. I’ve recommended him to several friends who have all had similar experiences. Many years later after my father had passed, the true value of what Chris did for us became clear. As grim as it may sound we were prepared (at least legally and financially) for my father’s death. I can’t thank him enough.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Caldwell, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
