Allison Cohen represented me when I bought my first home, and she made what seemed like a daunting process so much more enjoyable and understandable. It helped a lot to have an attorney whose expertise I could rely on throughout such a stressful process no matter what challenges arose. She took the time out of her day to have lengthy discussions with me to fill me in on where things stood, and when challenges arose she made sure they were handled with ease. Allison's assistant, Leslie, was also a huge help. Between the two of them, someone was always accessible whenever I had a question or when something needed to get done. I would definitely use Allison again and would recommend her to anyone in need of a real estate or estate planning attorney!

We sold our home through a Realator and purchase our home from a private seller. Ali and her office provided the guidance and expertise for both deals. For the purchase, she provided the necessary contract and coordinated all details including hiring the title company.

We recently purchased a home and were referred to Ali Cohen by our daughter, also an attorney. Our daughter highly recommended Ali for the services we needed and she couldn't have been more spot on! We were hesitant as to whether or not we needed an attorney for a routine real estate transaction, but we are very thankful we hired Ali. She looked out for our interests and wrote certain protections into the contract for us. In the end we were glad we had these. She kept after the mortgage company who were challenging to work with and acted as a sounding board for our concerns. Ali is very savvy & wise and we are glad she was on our side of the table for the transaction. We will be using her again in the future.

I called the law office of Adam kotlar for an Estate Attoney after viewing the great reviews about Ali. I spoke to her personally. We talked, I told her about my mom passing away and I needed help handling her estate. AlI said she would hold my hand all the way through and she did. I had no worries. She was very professional and informative each and every time I called or emailed her. Ali kept me abreast to everything that went on through email and she even called me. I felt like she had my best interest. Ali is very kind, understanding and very knowledgeable. ALI took care of my mother's estate within a month actually three weeks. I high recommend her to everyone . She is a wonderful person and excellent lawyer that has her clients best interest. It was a pleasure working with her and If I had to do this again. I would definitely know that Ali had my back and would handle it with great knowledge and professionalism. Thanks! The Mchenry Family

Ed is a very patient, kind attorney who helped me through a real rough time in my life. Everything was explained to me and he had to repeat himself several times because of my brain fog. He always contacted me promptly after leaving a message. Ed was a pleasure to do business with & highly recommended his services. Thank you Ed.

Janelle handled my case with great professionalism. Her knowledge of the law, thorough legal research, attention to detail, and legal writings were exceptional. Janelle worked tirelessly on motions for my case that all led to favorable outcomes. What I appreciated most of all was that she was always conscious of serving my best interests and quick to respond to any questions I had. I recommend Janelle to anyone as the lawyer who will best serve your interests.

Jenelle took over my case when my previous attorney left for another position. She knew how concerned and anxious I was. She helped keep me calm and focused. I believed in her and Mr. Schorr's ability to win my case. They did and Jenelle even checked in when it was over and I WON!!I would recommend Jenelle and the law firm

I worked with Christopher during my bankruptcy filing. His warm demeanor definitely put me at ease. He is very friendly and answered all of my questions (and I had several!). I came in with a list of questions, and he patiently answered each and every one in detail, without hesitation. I've worked with quite a few lawyers in my life between divorce and custody issues, but overall Christopher Cassie was the best. He was very thorough and made sure all of our bases were covered. I definitely will recommend him to any one that mentions bankruptcy.

John represented me on two matters and obtained tremendous results. Attentive to details, and was quite skilled at positioning the case to my best advantage. His entire office was terrific at keeping me advised of the case status and providing timely responses to my calls. There is not a better attorney in his area.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cherry Hill, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
