incompetent law firm who did not even know the basic laws of the case, which were obvious to me. When corrected they didn't even bother to look up the law to verify. They would have clearly saw they were wrong and I did verify for them so they would know. They seem uninterested in this fact after it could no longer be used to blame me for something that was 100% not my fault. They did brag about how many cases like mine they have "represented" tho. You would think after "1000s of cases" like mine they would know the road laws. Also they treated the victim who they were meant to represent hostile for no reason in the second introductory meeting. the victim of the accident getting cruelly bombarded in an introduction meeting by who was meant to represent them as if they were the opposing counsel in trial is uncalled for. I was shocked. Twilight zone level of what was that? Seriously- made no sense. They are angry for no reason and projecting on anyone even who they were meant to take on as a client. It was not only a waste of time- it was absolutely a disgraceful way to get treated especially considering what the case is about. Victims who are 100% proven not at fault but wound up undeniably physically injured should not get further attacked especially by who was meant to represent them. Shameful way to treat a human. Scott Kessler practically screamed about a dozen times in a row in a way too intense and inhumane way that they were only there for the money. Anne Merritt was vicious for no reason spouting incorrect laws in the first minute I met her. They were lazy and took 2 months to even look over my case & then offered me help only if they could take 33% of the settlement with a letter. They did not want to earn their take if it came to trial. They only wanted the quick money. I did not want to spend another moment with these inhumane people. I seriously sat there in shock about how incompetent, lazy, and inhumane they were behaving. I have fought many legal battles. Your lawyer makes or breaks the case. This firm will break your case. Do yourself the favor and pass on them.

I retained Mr. Ricci during a very challenging time when I was divorcing. With all the various factors that were entangled in my case, Mr. Ricci navigated me through the journey with fair resolution. Communication was clear and answered my inquiries in a timely matter. One of the striking points that Mr. Ricci provided during my divorce was how he was able to separate emotions from the law. His services did not stop when my divorce was final which was greatly appreciated.

I hired Bob to help me execute one of the most difficult and important decisions of my life. I can honestly say Bob is a lawyer who really cares about what he does and his clients. He took the time to fully understand every aspect of my case and represented me much better than I would have ever expected. He was always there when I needed him and advised me against doing many things that would have resulted in an unnecessary expense. I would recommend Bob to anyone who is looking for a good, honest, and caring lawyer.

I hired Robert Ricci to represent me in a Child Custody case recently. The nature of the case with the defendant was very sensitive and emotional to say the least. Robert has been nothing less than attentive to my concerns, legal needs and emotional state of mind. He has been responsive to every call or email that was transmitted to his office. He offered legal advice that was both in keeping with the laws and taking into account my emotional state of mind. Both Robert and his paralegal, were very attentive and professional during this entire journey. Robert listen and this is a notably characteristic in an Attorney. Robert, was proactive and present. He had the respect of the court and the judge. Robert has successful provided me with professional service that yielded a favorable outcome to me. I highly recommend Robert Ricci Jr and his Paralegal to anyone that has a family matter and is in need of an attorney, that is knowledgeable in the law, one that listens, is empathetic, and knows how to address the court to bring about favorable results to their given circumstance. Robert also worked with me financially in allowing me to afford him while at the same time not compromising his professional service to me. Thank you Robert.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Clark, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
