After hiring this attorney for more than a fair fee, I had to spend days and months looking for updates to no avail. No responses, attitude was not the best, and organization kills were not to my liking expectations. Would not hire again.

Samantha has represented me in my custody proceedings and I'm deeply grateful to be working with such a thorough, thoughtful, and caring partner. She is not only knowledgeable and extremely capable, but she is also an advisor and advocate; providing a grounding presence during extremely difficult times. Samantha listens to what you have to say, and takes exceptional care to thoroughly explain and ensure that you understand all of your options as she guides you through the process. I cannot recommend her more strongly.

Not all attorneys are created equal and sadly I learned this lesson the hard way. Family law presents many challenges and usually involves children, heartache and decisions resulting in lifelong consequences. Choosing the right attorney makes all the difference in the outcome of your case and unfortunately you usually must make this choice when your life is literally falling apart. My biggest regret will forever be that Samantha wasn’t my initial attorney and did not handle my divorce. However, she did handle my child support and alimony enforcement case and for that I will forever be grateful. Samantha is an outstanding attorney whom I would recommend to anyone. Working with her was an exceptional experience from beginning to end. She was empathetic, knowledgeable, attentive, dedicated and kind. For the first time I felt heard and understood. Not all cases are the same and a true professional takes the time to listen as well as to advise. She took time to explain things, she offered her opinion on decisions I needed to make and she was adaptable. Samantha is a rare find because she has heart and it shines through in everything that she does. By the time I sat in front of Samantha I had already been through a long and difficult divorce plus years of failed attempts at enforcement. I was exhausted and disillusioned with the court system. I was literally in her office against the advice of my family who had encouraged me to give up and move on. I felt alone and helpless. During our first meeting it became clear that Samantha was different from other attorneys. Sure she was a skilled attorney but she understood and valued the importance of her role in her clients’ lives. She understood that cases involving domestic violence have their own unique challenges and she knew how to handle them to best help her client. I was confident that she would work hard to ensure the best outcome for myself and my child. Sadly, experience had taught me that justice doesn’t always prevail but believing that Samantha would do everything that she could to advocate for us was the most I could hope for. She managed to organize the chaos of my case into a concise legal plan all while maintaining a sense of compassion and never letting my emotions get us lost in the weeds. Judges want attorneys to be clear and concise and she has a gift for taking a tremendous amount of information and pairing it down to a few specific and key points. The ongoing trauma that I had endured caused me to suffer more than financial losses and she was a guiding hand throughout the entire process. I eventually had my day in court with Samantha at my side and this time I didn’t tremble or cower. Despite having been to court many times before and my ex husband walking away unscathed and unaccountable each and every time… this day I had hope. Samantha truly impressed me that day in the court room and I saw a side of her that I had never seen before. I was grateful she was on my side. It would prove to be the first time that I walked out of the courthouse with a smile on my face and a friend by my side.

My family and I have known and used Mr Todd Eder’s services for over 25 years. Todd has done an outstanding job from start to finish on three separate real estates closings and personal injury due to a car crash. He was also our probate attorney, and did a fantastic job. His work ethic is above and beyond. Todd always kept us in the light and was easy to reach when ever I had a question, or simply needing an update. Todd is extremely competent and organized. He filed everything in a timely manner. Mr Eder’s fees were very reasonable, especially for the quality of work that he does. Mr Eder is my family attorney and I wish him many more healthy years of good practice. I highly recommend Todd Eder, who I believe is one of the best in the business. He truly cares about each and every client that walks thru his door. Thank you Todd! Sam and family

Mr. Eder represented my son in 2010 for a DUI and with a legal brief that impressed the judge had the charge dismissed. In 2017 Mr. Eder had a Careless Driving 2pts. reduced to Traffic Obstruction 0pt.s and a lesser fine. We highly recommend him.

Edwin Rubin guided me through the entire naturalization process. He knows immigration law extremely well and most importantly, he communicates clearly at every step of the process, always returning emails and phone calls same day. He prepared me well for my interview and I would recommend him highly without reservation.

We chose Mr. Rubin to represent us to get permanent residency via marriage. Our previous lawyer tried to use the scare tactics, let us think the case is very hard and demanded a lot of extra charge. He also belittled us, and made us feel humiliated, that was when we decided to switch to Mr. Rubin. He treated us with kindness, told us the problem we had was not a big one at all, and charged us a very fair price. Everything he asked us to prepare is right on, the immigration interview was a actually pleasant. He made jokes with the officer, and everyone was in a good mood. Of course we got our green card on the same day! Thank you Mr. Rubin! We could not have done it without you!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of East Brunswick, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
