I have known David Hartstein for 16 years, he handled my divorce and it went very smoothly. He listened to my demands and worries. He is a very compassionate person. Mr. Hartstein is always available by phone 24/7. A majority of my family members and friends have used Mr. Harstein for their issues and were very content with the outcome of their matters. He is very personable and easy to talk to. I would not hesitate to use him again in the future, if the need be.

Mr. Hartstein represented me in my divorce. He did an amazingly great job. I am very happy with the results that he obtained for me. This has been a very stressful process for me, but at all times I felt confident that Mr. Hartstein was looking out for my best interests. I am very grateful for all the effort he put into my difficult divorce case.

Mr Hartstein has proved to be incompetent when it is a complicated divorce case and he cannot remember the facts and misapplied the facts without consulting me. Mr Hartstein is scattered during phone conversations and can't retain details . Mr Harstein placed me in a precarious situation and was unable, even after acknowledging his error, to correct the mistake. Mr Hartstein loves to share stories about other clients, wasting precious time and billing for his non sequitor babble. Mr Harstein is filled with himself, manipulative and spent more time talking about himself and other cases and then billing me. The results were doing nothing of any value. Mr Harstein is not technical with the new computer age and using him is a waste of money. Mr Harstein makes it appear that he is interested in your case, but don't fall for his concern, his main focus is to talk a lot and then bill, bill, bill. Instead of Mr Hartstein working on your case, he spends the time bragging and patting himself on the back Don't do it... you will be wasting your money.

Mr. Hartstein's attention and guidance throughout the divorce proceedings kept me at ease during an extremely difficult and emotionally draining process. His approach was for me to avoid conflict with my estranged spouse and attempt to mediate differences and disagreements. This strategy would prove to save me money in the long run. I feel that he understood my needs and was familiar with the unique circumstances associated with my case. I was not just a docket number to him. He always answered the phone when I called (weekends and holidays) and offered a calming word and next steps. I would recommend Hartstein & Hartstein to anyone looking for exceptional representation in family court.

Robert Agresta is an exceptional young lawyer with a lot of talent and knowledge to bring to the table. I have sought his advice for a number of different legal issues, and he as answered every question with professionalism and discernment. While he tends to focus on corporate transactions, his advice regarding property acquisitions has proven invaluable, and so has his assistance in in completing transactions of this nature. He is diligent in his reviews of contracts that I have sent him, and he has even gone beyond his specialty to give me advice with regard to immigration law. It is clear that he truly cares for his clients because when he feels he has inadequate knowledge about a particular specialty, he either goes out of his way to learn more so as to provide me with sound legal advice, or he researches who will be better able to assist me when it comes to certain problems. Robert's extensive insight about local government is also incredible. His position as a council president has enabled him to learn a great deal about the workings of small town politics, and has given the experience necessary to advise about successful campaign management. I would recommend seeking Mr. Agresta's advice should you have any legal question at all. You can count on a reliable answer from a man who is most assuredly looking out for your best interest.

For my wife and I, going through a CH 7 bankruptcy was a pretty dark time for us, but the light at the end of the tunnel was Mark, Cassandra, and Kate. We were able to keep our house and start over with a clean slate. We read the other reviews written about Mark and his team and everything they said is true. They were a pleasure to work with from the time we met them until our bankruptcy was discharged. Their fee was fair, their work was impeccable, and their representation of us at our hearing was impressive. We could not have envisioned a better outcome of our situation. We fully agree that we would recommend Mark, Cassandra, and Kate to anyone in need of excellent bankruptcy representation.

I have had many interactions with attorneys for many different functions but have never had more positive communications with a more poised and informative attorney. Mark has been responsive, timely and charismatic to any of our needs and concerns. I endorse him and his firm most enthusiastically. Don't look for better representation. Patrick

I hired Mark for 2 different matters, and he along with his staff were excellent. They made me feel like I was their priority, took the time to explain everything, answer any question I had. I can't speak highly enough about Mark and his employees. I would hire then again if I needed to.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Englewood, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
