I retained Silvana Raso on the recommendation from a trusted friend, and I am so thankful I did. She is an excellent, and brilliant attorney. I was fortunate to also have Danielle on board, making this a true dream team in my corner. My divorce was difficult and very contentious. I was in financial distress and my life was in emotional turmoil, which made it difficult to think clearly and make good decisions. All that, while trying to understand the legal process surely complicated matters even more. Silvana provided sound and solid advice, explained the law in clear language, and outlined the steps in the process that needed to be done. Because of the contentious nature of my divorce, and my ex’s unwillingness to settle, we ended up going to trial. I honestly don’t think I would have made it through without Silvana and Danielle. They expertly helped me navigate the complicated process, with their high level of professionalism, their broad spectrum of knowledge of the law, and their compassion for what my kids and I were going through, I knew that I was in the most capable hands. Danielle was very resourceful and cared a great deal about the high quality work she produced. Her research and findings were invaluable to us at trial. Silvana handled my case in the most meaningful and ethical manner, with honesty and trustworthiness. When we were in court, it was clear to see that she was well respected by colleagues, and judges alike. Silvana was beyond prepared every single time we went to court. She was so thorough and extremely attentive to details. Her ability to remember everything that was in my file and recall it at the precise right moment was so impressive. She was an extremely effective litigator, and a rock star at cross examination. This trial was difficult and stressful to say the least, but Silvana fought for me all the way to a successful outcome. The judge ruled in our favor. Big win for us! But, my ex was obviously not happy with the judge’s final decision and decided to appeal it. So we ended up in Superior Court. Silvana was just as fierce in Superior Court, and my ex lost the appeal, so technically we won again! I really can’t say enough to describe how grateful I am for the top notch representation I received. Both Silvana and Danielle went above and beyond for me every step of the way. My children and I are eternally grateful for their service and I highly recommend them both, wholeheartedly and without reservation. I cannot thank them enough.

Silvana Raso and her associate, Danielle Cardone, represented me in a contentious (and very sudden) divorce. With their support, I was able to get out of a difficult marriage on my own terms. Silvana and Danielle negotiated a great deal for me in a very short amount of time, saving me a lot of money in legal fees and a lot of emotional distress. I am now on to a much happier, and stress free life. They are the best!

Silvana combines the rare quality of being well-versed in legal matters, professional and caring all in one. She displays compassion, kindness and generosity of spirit while also understanding that, at times, one must step in, stand one's legal ground and competitively represent a client. I hired Silvana and she was my attorney for over 2 years. I could not be happier with my choice. I highly recommend her and feel that she is making the legal world a better place in a field that is emotionally charged.

I can highly recommend Melissa Suarez and her office if you need an attorney to represent you in a sale. She represented us this past fall 2024 in our purchase of a single family home. She is professional, knowledgeable, and answered all of our questions. We felt that we were well represented by her and her staff.

I was referred to this law firm by a friend and I couldn't have been more impressed. It was a simple and professional experience from start to finish. Dwayne handled everything from my first phone call to my final phone call, got straight to the point had my paperwork filed quickly and remained in touch with me throughout every step of the process. My estimated time for expungement was 8-10 months but I received my final order after about 4 months but that was because the county it was filed in was up to date with their paperwork which was a really nice bonus. The Price is incredible, I paid 1/3 the price of what I had imagined paying. The law firm does all the work for you so you can rest easy knowing its being filed professionally, the cost is unmatched and the staff treats you very well. I would highly recommend this service to anyone I know.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
