I recently purchased a Townhome and Mr. Martinez was my attorney and I am 100% satisfied with the entire experience. He kept me informed each step of the way and I felt comfortable with the advice and knowledge he shared. Even my real estate agent was impressed! I will definitely recommend him to family and friends.

Mr. Martinez is a phenomenal attorney. He assisted my husband and I with the purchase of our home and as first time home buyers, which can be an overwhelming process, Mr. Martinez made sure we were comfortable, well informed and protected throughout the entire process. It was a pleasure working with him and we would absolutely recommend him to friends and family and without a doubt hire him for any future needs.

We used ryan's services, for the closing on our first home. And he was there every step of the way. He was also available whenever we needed a legal question answered. It helped make the whole process that much easier. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a knowledgeable and trustworthy attorney. A true professional through and through.

Bill was able to handle and take over a wrongful termination employment suit for me after firing my previous attorney. He was extremely knowledgeable regarding the law and not only was able to correct the previous attorney's mistakes but was able to negotiate a settlement that far exceeded my expectations. He is very friendly and excellent in communicating with clients. He treated my case like his own. His experience and professionalism is a shining example of how an attorney should be. I highly recommend hiring him if you want a positive result in your case.

I am a current client of Mr. William A. Feldman. Mr, Feldman exhibited a great deal of expertise in my situation. There is no question in my mind of his grasp of legal knowledge. He also demonstrates that he truly cares about his clients. This is a 5 out of 5 star endorsement and I would not hesitate to refer him to anyone needing legal advice or representation.

He is a good lawyer and a good person. He is patient and understanding of how difficult it is for a lay person to understand the many intricacies of the legal system. He explains things in “English” and does not rely on legalese to hide behind in his explanations of court procedures and possible outcomes. He makes you feel comfortable with what he is doing and the operations of the court.

There was a major collection company which had a default judgement against me for a credit card debt that was paid. After providing countless documentation was unable to resolve the issue. I posted on Avvo a general question and received responses back quickly. Melissa Totaro agreed to review my documents; she represented me in the court on a contingency basis and got the default judgment vacated. Melissa was very understanding to my circumstances. Could not have been more pleased with the way she handled my situation.

When I first got to Melissa's office and explained my situation to her the firs thing she said was "it sounds like you have a case" She wasted no time, she pulled out her pen and pad started asking me questions, writing notes and wanted any and all evidence that I had with me at the time. Not only did she believe in my case but she asked for no money upfront which was a blessing to me. Right then i knew she would fight tooth and nail for me. She explained how things would go and what to be prepared for. Throughout the next several months she called and emailed me every step of the way. Any questions she had, updates, or new news she always kept me in the loop. Melissa is very upfront, knowledgeable, and precise with everything. My lawyers fought to make sure everything turned out for the better. So if you are looking for a lawyer who will go above and beyond and will not take no for an answer than look no further You are most certainly in the right hands.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfield, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
