4
Achieves successful outcomes for clients
“Barry overturned a Will, which is extremely difficult to do. My two young children, in elementary school, will be able to have a better current situation and future situation because of Barry and Angelina and Barry's team.”
5
Receives high praise from satisfied clients
“I highly recommend the Law Office of Barry E. Janay P.C. I am an attorney who was opposing counsel on a dispute. We were able to work together to obtain a settlement that both parties were content with. Barry was very easy to work with and knowledgeable!”
Cons
1
Concerns about lack of communication and responsiveness
“Awful communication. Takes too long to get back on cases. Barry always defers to other employees and makes things more difficult than it needs to be.”
2
Instances of unprofessional and rude behavior
“UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE!!!!!!!!!... He suddenly interrupted me and said he would be happy to write a letter to the person(s) involved but charges $1,000. I told him of my financial status and asked if he would accept $500...he said no.”
3
Allegations of mishandling cases and poor representation
“Horrible. Not only is Barry unprofessional, he talks a good game and oversells himself. He's arrogant and can't stand to be called out on his mistakes. He called my employer before reading the facts of my case - facts which I emailed him immediately upon payment.”
4
Concerns about billing practices and transparency
“DO NOT HIRE HIM nor JENNIFER RYAN! I paid him $3000 upfront in June 2020 for my probate matter. No communication all summer long, I had to call the courthouse in November 2020 to get info on my case. It was never filed. Tried to contact his office and the number was disconnected! They sent me bills $60 for a email, $300 for a 10 minute phone call etc.”
5
Lack of empathy and poor communication from some staff members
“Been trying to get touch with Neal Flaster for couple months now and NOTHING. It appears he screens his calls/emails/texts. OK things take time to review but COME ON!! at least have the decency to communicate especially when a family who is grieving mind you, has called the office #/cell # left messages /emailed , even text…MULTIPLE times.”

Jon Green is a consummate high integrity legal professional who not only knows New Jersey employment law but knows how it works and how to work it. He is relentless and tenacious in his pursuit of justice for his client. He’s fearless and will consistently fight to get a fair settlement for you. He doesn’t back down. He’s a client-oriented attorney who listens carefully to his client so that he fully understands the case details and what your objectives are. If he doesn’t know or understand something you’ve said, he’ll ask you to explain further. He doesn’t assume anything. He’s very detail oriented. Jon will be fully engaged in your case and is best described as “all in” once the wheels of justice begin to turn. Jon also will tell you what you need to know not what you want to hear. He’ll give you the good news and the bad news. As the case twists and turns, Jon takes the time to explain it to you so you understand it and what ramifications it has for your case. Jon works with the client collaborating on strategies and next steps. I was referred to Jon by a corporate labor attorney who recommended Jon because “Jon has a game plan”. Once Jon knows all the details of your case he definitely will have a game plan. That said, he is open to the client’s opinions and is willing to take a different path that the client suggests if it makes sense and is beneficial to the case. Jon was always accessible and his staff and other partners were very helpful. After three and a half years the case was settled out of court and it was a very positive outcome. In my opinion, you couldn’t have a better employee rights attorney fighting for you than Jon Green. TS

Jon represented me as a whistleblower against a former employer. He worked with me for over three years and negotiated a settlement that I am happy with. Jon’s knowledge of employment law, coupled with his many years of experience never ceased to amaze me. He always took my calls and answered my questions, patiently educating me on how the law works. What you want from your case and what you can realistically achieve with the evidence you have is something that Jon understands well. Jon is open-minded, he will listen to your suggestions and will work with you to give you the best chance of success. Jon has seen it, done it and he draws on his own experiences over his long career to provide the “battle plan” for your case. The proof is in the results and I can truly say that Jon delivered for me. We spent a long time together working on my case. If you hire Jon, you will gain the benefit of his experience, a brilliant legal advocate and also a friend. I will miss him. Thank you again, Jon.

Jon came highly recommended to me through one of his colleagues. As soon as we started talking he knew exactly what the main crux of my case should be and how it should be handled. He and his staff were in constant communication throughout the whole process. They never left a question unanswered. They worked patiently to make sure that I received a just and fair end to my case. His empathy for my situation was more than I could have asked for. Workplace situations are very delicate and emotional. Jon struck the great balance between being firm with me, keeping me focused and having the right sense of humor! There is no doubt that he is the leader in his field, his expertise is exceptional. I would, without any hesitation recommend Jon and his firm.

Mr. D'Alessandro has been our attorney for the last 8 years and has been no thing short of spectacular during several real estate transactions - private and commercial, as well as a couple of civil litigation cases. We are particularly thankful as he worked with us during my wife's prolonged illness. I must also note that prior to doing representing my wife and I Mr. D'Alessandro has been my wife's personal attorney for at least 1o years prior to that and was equally superb in representing her in a variety of matters.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Florham Park, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
