Chris did a great job with my case. I had no prior record and he was able to help me through the PTI Process. The most impressive thing he was able to do was to reduce the amount of probation time that was originally offer, in addition to community service. He was able to review the facts of the case with the Prosecutor and due to the fact of my very low involvement, the Prosecutor agreed that what he had originally put on the table was a bit much. When it was time for my Expungement, Chris contacted me right away to get the process started, and now my record is fully clean because of it. Thank you for everything!

Christopher did a great job defending me for my 2nd DUI. He worked tirelessly and was extremely prepared. His knowledge regarding the laws helped my case immensely. Most importantly he made a VERY difficult circumstance easier to get through. I felt calm and confident as I went to court. I'm positive my outcome was much better because of him. I highly recommend Christopher and the law firm of Travis Tormey.

“It very difficult to put into words the gratitude that I feel for the help that Mr. Perry provided to me. I pride myself in being an upstanding, law abiding American, so it was extremely stressful & shocking to me when i find out from a state trooper, which pulled me over for driving to slow in the left lane on a highway that a restraining order was still active against me for an accusation from 20 year ago, I was 21 years old at that time, an immature young man. And to my knowledge, this TRO was dropped when my Ex-girlfriend and i parted ways during the final court days, we both had TRO's on each other, me for being drunk and verbally abusive and her for stalking me and the same, but being inexperienced in these matters, i kept the impression that she dropped her TRO when i dropped mine. I guess being that age i still needed experience and a good lesson in humility. After reviewing countless law firm, I went ahead and consulted with Mr. Tormey, Mr. Tormey explained in detail the steps and the process in which he will take to correct this issue, he as clear and to the point, so it was an instant higher! In my case i stressed that I was most concerned with my carrier which sustains a certain amount of security clearance at times. But i have to say when the court date arrived at exactly 21 years ago to the day, yes I know weird, i was questioned by the Hackensack NJ judge, i can seriously say that the level of professionalism displayed by Mr. Perry during the hearing was exemplary. I myself was nerves, but he seemed like he could read my mind and addressed what was needed before i could say anything. I call that safety first! hahaha! This restraining order was dismissed and expunged off my record. I cannot thank him enough for what he did for me and my carrier / life. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Perry to represent anyone in need. I solely believe that knowledge is power, well The Law Firm is amazingly dangerous in that area, and I place their value in helping the populous that are in need, at the highest regard. So look no further." Thank you

If you are from New Jersey you know he is considered the best defense attorney in the state. If you are researching and just learning about Mr. Flood, chances are you have seen him on television or in the newspapers unknowingly. My case involved a securities transactions. Mr. Flood and his team worked countless hours and the end result was “not guilty”. I think the federal prosecutors nearly fainted. It was a long and difficult trial. Me. Flood saved my company and my life. He is not only an excellent lawyer, but a great man. Finally, when he walks into a room people take notice. He is impeccably dressed with Cary Grant looks. A triple threat my wife would say. Thank you Mr. Flood.

He represented my company. I am in the public eye and he managed to not only be discreet and one of the finest men I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with - the end result was very favourable. He ran circles around a very unreasonable international CEO and his lawyers. Excellent and very humble man!

Sue Smith, listened, acted, and we got a response, shortly after they received her letter. Unfortunately, i needed a lawyer in my state to represent me. But, Suzanne's quick action, triggering a response and offer, from the opposing party, has set me in a very good position with my new lawyer, and we are going to trial. I'm only sorry i couldn't stay with Suzanne, to finish out my case. I highly recommend Suzanne, and would gladly use her again, if needed, with anything that does not require me to use a lawyer from my state only.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hackensack, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
