This is my second lawyer and I regret not picking her years ago. I’ve been in a battle with my ex for over a year. My case is extremely difficult and has a lot of pieces to it. Rebecca listened to every detail and was able to direct me properly. She explained everything in English and was extremely patient. She really looks out for your best interest. She won’t steer you wrong. From the first conversation I had with her, she made me feel safe for once. Prior to her I was robbed by another lawyer who put me in a worse situation than I was before. Rebecca is not only confident but she carry’s herself with class, yet aggressive for the fight. I was extremely anxious prior to my CS hearing. Literally in tears and extremely anxious. She reassured me that everything was going to be ok and it was. I’ve never felt this safe with anyone in a long time. She made sure that my voice was heard and I was going to win my case. Although we still have more work to do, I will always choose her. I’ve recommended her to several friends too because of how amazing she is. I trust her with my life.

I went to Rebecca in March 2021 for an issue of recovering Child Support arrears. I had a phone consultation (re; COVID) where she outlined what my options were & the steps she recommended to take to to recover the arrears. Her office staff emailed me a retainer agreement which i signed & paid. As agreed, she wrote a letter to my ex-husband that struck the exact tone and tenor I was looking for to motivate him to become current on his child support. Rebecca was very responsive to my follow up emails and i was successful in my recovery. Only con was the billing process... I never received a 1st bill which included the drafting of the letter. In fairness, the postal service hasn't had a stellar performance in my neighborhood during/since COVID. In any event , once I received the 2nd months bill, I was able to figure out the cost of the letter ($300.00). Rebecca is calm, professional, honest and polite. I feel she was an active listener and heard my concerns.I easily give Rebecca my highest recommendation.

Well, I can't say enough about this lawyer. After seeing a higher priced lawyer, with NO 'bedside manner' we were referred to Rebecca by a friend. From the first 5 minutes in speaking with her we knew we had our lawyer. She listened and was patient and empathetic. We needed to answer these questions that were very in depth. She then wrote her OWN questions to fire back and they were SO great! After submitting those questions...the opposing party was then willing to negotiate. Again, she is beyond helpful and very thorough. This is the ONLY lawyer I will speak to in the future. It's too bad you can only give 5 stars because I would give 100!

Ms. Faulkner made promises to me during my initial interview when she was trying to get me to retain her services. Once the retainer was paid, Ms. Faulker basically succeeded to every argument of the opposing party and the arguments she assured me I would be successful in initially, she was trying to counsel me against. She was not aggressive at all and I do not feel that I made out any better with her representation. I actually made out worse because now there was $10,000 less in my account.

My job was not completed by this attorney. Attorney was not ready or organized. She could have had more compassion and respect for client.

We hired Jessica to guide us on our Estate Planning. Jessica is patient, flexible, professional, and knowledgeable, and it was pleasure and delight to work with her. We did not have much knowledge on Estate Planning (Will/Trust/Power of Attorney), but Jessica took the time to explain everything and answered all the questions we had - (we had a lot of questions). We recommend Jessica Sauer, and anyone that hires Jessica will not be disappointed.

Jennifer is organized, experienced and very professional. She kept me informed and provided me with options and information so that I could make informed choices at each step of the process. It didn’t hurt that she’s super smart too. I couldn’t have asked for a better attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lawrenceville, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
