My husband and I contacted Yale Hauptman when it became apparent that my mom would need to be approved for Medicaid in order to continue her care in the residence where she has been successful. After a consultation with Yale, we hired him. Yale and everyone in his office were always knowledgeable, professional, and maintained excellent communication with us. That last part was very important, as the law office has gone through the Medicaid process many times, but it was our first time doing this, so we needed them to continually provide guidance and reassurance that everything was proceeding as needed—and they never lost sight of that. Our experience was extremely positive, and my mom has been approved for Medicaid.

Hauptman and Hauptman is an excellent elder care law firm. My family and I have worked with both Laurie and Yale for over five years. We recently worked closely with Yale as he handled the very complicated Medicaid application process for us. He is very knowledgeable as well as answered our many questions. When my mom could no longer stay at home alone and needed long term care we were unsure what to do. We had so many questions and were getting so much different information it was difficult to sort through it all and know what was the right thing to do. Yale was able to explain it all and help us make the right choices for our mom and our family. Yale and his staff guided our family through the entire process from start to finish, suggesting and explaining the pros and cons of the different options presented to us, pointing out potential pitfalls we were not aware of, helping us work through the various financial questions concerning what my mom could and could not afford and ultimately guiding us through the Medicaid application process. Yale acted as an intermediary with the facility we ultimately chose for our mom as well as with the Medicaid office. I don’t know that we could have done it without his guidance.

We had a very complicated case in trying to get my husband onto Medicaid, but Yale assured me that if we followed his guidelines and instructions, his case would be approved. There were numerous accounts and documents that had to be submitted, but Yale and his staff patiently guided me through the process. I am very grateful to have had such a professional and knowledgeable attorney work on my behalf. I would not hesitate to hire him again and I would say to hire him sooner than later so you can get excellent advice when you first start planning.

In 2014, my siblings and I hired Hauptman and Hauptman to assist us in planning for our parent’s financial and legal needs when our mom needed to move into a skilled nursing facility. First, they helped us set up trusts for both our parents and guided us on securing resources needed to pay for the nursing home and to ensure our father could continue to live at home comfortably. Next, they helped us secure VA benefits for our father. We didn’t even realize he was eligible! Eventually our father also ended up in the nursing home. Laurie and Yale Hauptman have been consulting my wife and I for a number of years regarding our trust and estate planning for our children, including one that has been chronically ill all of her life. We had an appointment for Laurie to do a Health Care Power of Attorney and Living Will for our daughter. I called Laurie on a Friday afternoon and told her of my daughter’s surgery the day before our scheduled appointment the following week. Laurie and Yale Hauptman put human concerns to rest when there is a problem. There are very few people with this level of caring to what people have to go through with many of life’s situations. No matter if it is your parent’s needs, your needs, or even your children’s needs as in our case. They are the “Go To” people when you have special needs, and want answers to questions you have regarding elder care. You cannot make assumptions on Federal and State elder care law. Plan now and avoid the “I should have done this”.
