In a divorce, this attorney likes to battle which initially I thought was a good thing, she was protecting my rights. I came to realize that she was really doing my family a real disservice. The intensity of the divorce which dragged on for almost two years which was horrible and cost way too much money. The money which went to this lawyer and the experts she recommended would have been better spent for my children's college education. The other side wanted to settle and presented offers but Ms. Schneider always rejected them. I think it would have been better if we mediated the case rather than prolonging the divorce through motions and other court time.

Lauren E. Caesar was extremely attentive, diligent and knowledgeable in helping me with a case in a divorce matter pertaining to child support, as well as some other aspects of family law. She was professional and personally returned my calls and emails in a timely manner. I was referred to her by the Superior Court of Monmouth County. She has been my go to for several years and I have always had a positive result every time due to her dedication to me as a client. There is never a way to determine the outcome of a case but she has always been optimistic and encouraging when I needed some light shed on the situation. In the court room she was just as professional and determined to get a point across. I will most definitely refer her to anyone needing legal assistance. She was the best decision I made when I needed help with the legal system. Thank you Lauren, you have helped me so much!

I first called Lauren when I started having issues with my ex-husband years after the divorce was final, and I knew immediately that she was the lawyer for me. She was compassionate, knowledgeable and understanding. Lauren talked with me, not at me as she listened for details that would ultimately build a strong and successful case. Her passion for fighting for my rights was unmeasurable and invaluable. Lauren kept me informed and explained things to me throughout the whole process. She gave me the confidence I needed to get through a very difficult time in my life, and I hired her a second time when I had a new problem with my ex-husband. Thank you!

I am an attorney in New York and was in need of repResentation in New Jersey. After a VERY DISAPPOINTING experience with a large firm, I found Ms. Noto. Not only is she savvy and street smart, she read every document I forwarded to her and had an excellent grasp of the facts, which contributed to our decisive win.

Maria Noto is a knowledgeable, patient and responsive attorney. She worked with me several years ago to resolve both criminal and civil charges It was a lengthy process and took tremendous skill to achieve what she did for me. Ms Noto knew exactly what to do, and told me the anticipated outcome at our very first consultation. Her office answers all communications timely and Maria has exceptional listening skills. Ms Noto is well know in the inner circles of the courts, for her professionalism and tenacity. Since our first engagement I always call Ms Noto first with any legal issues, and have engaged her or her colleagues several times.

I hired Andrew to draft/update my commerical lease agreement. With his guidance, I now have a much more solid lease to protect me and my business. He identified several areas that should have been ommited and more importantly identified several imperative missing clauses from my lease. I now have a lease that not only protects me better, but also clearly outlines everyone's obligations. Highly recommended!

I was involved in a head on collison. The other party was at fault and I choose Andrew to do the bodily injury claim. Andrew was very good in explaining the process of a bodily injury claim and keeping me updated on where we were in the process. Andrew is very personable and friendly in my dealings. Also, he is very detailed. He is also very reachable via email or calls and typically very prompt when returning emails and calls regarding your questions. My BI claim settled quickly and everything was very satisfactory. I would definitely recommend him.

Andrew helped me with a real estate issue in regards to a ended relationship. I do think without his help I would have been able to keep my home. I would recommend him to my friends and family.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Matawan, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
