Messineo Law is the best law firm I’ve ever used, and I’ve used many. Not only is their work and knowledge of the law top notch, but they treated me like a person and not a ‘client’. They explained things in a way that I could understand and were happy to answer my numerous questions. They always advised me to do what was in my best interests regardless of what I thought I should do or the impact to their fees. I will be using Messineo Law from now on!

I've used the Messineo Law Firm a few times. I don't normally do reviews but felt like I had to. I looked at all the other reviews and can't help but agree with all of them 100%, plus more. This firm goes above and beyond and really gets to know you and honestly cares about you. Would recommend them to everyone!

I had been dealing with a prolonged mediated divorce process that was nearing 3 years when Sandy came on and took my case (following the retirement of my previous attorney - yes it took THAT long lol). Sandy picked right up where my previous attorney left off and was extremely proactive in closing out the open items and communicating with my ex's lawyer (who was very difficult to deal with). She was able to help wrap up the entire divorce in only a few months from her taking it over and was in touch with me through every stage until finalization of my formal divorce last month. I would highly recommend her for anyone looking for proactive, knowledgeable, and effective counsel!!!

I had a different attorney for a year and three months and my divorce was just dragging on and on. Based upon a friends recommendation I hired Ms. Lomenzo and the divorce was resolved in a month and a half. Ms. Lomenzo always responded promptly via email, telephone or zoom. Explained things very well. Effective when dealing with opposing counsel. Would highly recommend.

Sandra Lomenzo revealed both her heart of compassion, and a treasure trove of wisdom in our first meeting. I continued to be impressed with Sandra's knowledge over the weeks she spent with me. She easily taught me an essential understanding of the law -- to the point, that I was proudly explaining the law to my opposition. She gave me the freedom to speak in confidence with her about every area of my case. As the lesser breadwinner in my marriage, I had become powerless. Her solution to have a Mid-Marriage Agreement, reinstated me with a "seat at the table." I am grateful that Sandra allowed me to open our meetings with a prayer. I heard wisdom from God, in this woman's voice many times. As I presented situations that I was dealing with, she knew exactly what needed to be stated in writing for our Agreement. She can do the same for you! Thank you Sandra! Your work, hit the "Reset" button in my marriage. I thank God for you.

Mr. Graifman restored my faith in attorneys ..after meeting with several dishonest attorneys, Mr Graifman took my case, handled it professionally and solved my problem...He continually contacted me with updates prior to the final resolution. I could not have been more happy with an attorney and would always return to his office first . In addition, Mr Graifman was knowledgeable, polite, and just an all around nice guy ...would highly recommend

Gary Graifman from KGG, represented our pharmaceutical company in a complicated corporate matter. His time and dedication to the matter provided us with a sense of confidence, security and loyalty which I am certain most companies cannot express about their attorneys. He is an attorney who stands out among his colleagues and “raises the bar” for which we were truly appreciative.

Melissa and her team provided my partner and I (international IPs both in the UK) with legal support during our second surrogacy journey in the US. At the start, she clearly laid out the steps involved, process, timings and her fees. Throughout the process she was very responsive and always available to answer any questions that we had. Thanks to Melissa we had a smooth journey and the pre birth order, post birth order and birth certificates were all obtained in good time. Thank you Melissa for all of your help! We would fully recommend Melissa for any IPs who need legal support during the surrogacy journey.

Melissa and her team helped us to have all our paperwork done in record time! We are a Spanish couple so it was even more difficult our case, but with their support, everything went smoothly! From the court order to the birth certificate filling and other required official documentation, everything went perfectly so we could have our baby registered, and with no issues. I extremely recommend her services, always replying immediately to any request and supporting us with any incidence that may appear! Great service!

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Montvale, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
