I was facing some legal proceedings regarding my daughter and based off of past experiences with my ex-wife I was rather concerned because things never seem to work out in a father's favor in my expereince. Still, I was determined to ensure my rights were not being abused and that I would get a fair time before the courts. So after consulting with multiple lawyers I decided to retain Matt and I can honestly say it was the best decision I could have made. From our first interaction, Matt was able to put my worrisome mind at ease and explain everything in detail so that I felt good about the direction we were proceeding down. I have never once questioned whether he had my interests in mind, and truly felt for the first time that I had someone who cared about my well being in these matters. He has been great about communicating with me and if there has been any questions for either of us they have been quickly addressed so that we are always on the same page. I cannot say enough about how great it has been working with Matt, and I know that if I have any further family law issues in the future he will definitely be my first phone call!

I highly recommend Matthew Podolnick for anyone who needs excellent, genuine representation. His confidence and experience put me at ease throughout a very difficult process. I’m in the military and live out of state and I would recommend his firm to others based on my experience as a client. I have the utmost confidence and respect for Matthew’s ability as an attorney. I am very pleased with the service provided and results obtained.

I cannot express my gratitude enough for Matt’s thoughtful, timely and compelling work on my behalf. Finding myself on the receiving end of malicious and vindictive filings by an ex who is also an attorney made for terrifying circumstances. Matt’s talent and poise settled me through the storm. My only complaint is that he has set the bar so high and as someone who loves out of state, I can’t use his services for the remainder of my custody battle. Thank you, Matt!!!

I highly recommend Matthew Podolnick for anyone who needs excellent, genuine representation. He is the type of lawyer every client wants, and all other lawyers strive to be like. It is no coincidence that he has the utmost respect and admiration of clients, defense attorneys, district attorneys, clerks, and judges alike. His confidence and experience put me at ease throughout a very difficult process. Matthew displayed excellent negotiation skills in settling my case. In the courtroom he is incredibly prepared. As an attorney, Matthew is brilliant, well-spoken, and charismatic. But what sets him apart from his peers is that he is as good of a person as he is an attorney. I highly recommend him to others based on my experience as a client. He is extremely knowledgeable on the law and very strategic with his cases. There is no shortage of divorce attorneys, but finding the best fit for your particular situation can be a challenge. I have the utmost confidence and respect for Matthew’s ability as an attorney. His work product, knowledge, and attention to detail are outstanding. I am very pleased with the service provided and results obtained.

After being injured on the job, I was searching online for a workers comp lawyer who could help me. I met Mr. Talone and made an appointment to see him. Our first meeting was very informative in that he explained the workers compensation laws covering the state of New Jersey. While we talked about my injury I became confident that he would be able to assist me in recovering monies for my injury. He got the employer to set appointments with an Orthopedist. Although they didn't want to, he was relentless and got an appointment with the Orthopedist within a day of our conversation. He is professional and stays on top of his client's cases. Mr. Talone or as I call him "A. J." has brought my case to a conclusion for which I am extremely happy about. I highly recommend A. J. Talone as an attorney to represent anyone who is injured on the job. He is good, fair, responsive, trustworthy and he keeps his clients informed. I am extremely pleased with his handling of my case and if you need help, call him. You will not regret it.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Moorestown, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
