Had this firm expunge my record which consisted of many felonies. They did a fantastic job throughout the entire process and got it done in a timely manner. Can’t recommend enough. Michele works wonders.

If you want to spend thousands to have your hand held to a guilty plea, this is the firm to hire. Not much contact from them, except advising of adjourned court dates. I wasn't informed much about the progression of my case and what was their strategy after they reviewed the complete discovery to get me the best possible outcome. They didn't care, Do your research before hiring a lawyer folks.

The police executed a search warrant and subsequently arrested me. I needed help in a hurry. I found Ms Finizio using Google and Michele agreed to help me sight unseen and then spent time with my family helping them cope with my situation. Michele affected my release from jail and then negotiated a favorable plea. She has continued to advise me post sentencing on parole issues and paying fines. I found her to be compassionate yet a no-nonsense person. I would certainly use her again but hope I don’t have to!!

I retained Michele for two separate traffic tickets. One was for driving 80 in a 65, the other was for Careless Driving. For the speeding ticket, she claims to have gotten me a "deal" by "only" having me plea to a 2 point offense (newsflash, driving 80 in a 65 IS 2 point ticket and Michele's response was "In New Jersey it's 4" as if I'm not from NJ). But whatever, I sign off on it and take the plea. For the Careless Driving ticket, which is also a 2 point ticket, she had me plea to a Unsafe operation of a motor vehicle-- presumably where I'd pay a larger fine and get 0 points. When I told her I had 2 unsafe driving tickets within 5 years and that I can't do this, she just spoke over me and said I was wrong and that Unsafe Driving is ALWAYS 0 points-- in actuality, it becomes 4 points on the 3rd offense within 5 years. My mistake was somehow believing her, possibly thinking laws have changed... but no, 4 points added to my driving abstract and kicked off my insurance. So in essence, I hired Michele, paid her money where it resulted in MORE points. I honestly wish I was making this up but no, she's disrespectful. I'm sure she's done good work for other clients, but its clear that this person picks and chooses who to give preferred service.

The reviews don’t lie… Michael is a top tier attorney. He is knowledgeable, supportive, and effective. I appreciated that Michael was honest and direct from the first time we spoke. He didn’t make any promises he couldn’t keep and he managed our expectations, while still fiercely advocating for the best and fairest outcome. He made a very stressful and emotional time much easier to handle. Michael was very responsive throughout the whole case and made time for us when we needed him. He is extremely efficient and doesn’t waste anyone’s time. I would highly recommend Michael and would not hesitate to have him represent me again. Thank you, Michael!

I would highly recommend the team at LaVan Law for anyone looking for professional, knowledgeable representation that they can trust. Everyone I dealt with at LaVan was professional, but also down to earth and ensured that I was informed about the process every step of the way. Julie and Drew were always prepared for every phone call, meeting, and conversation I had with them about my matter, and truly cared about getting me the right outcome. In both cases, I came out with exactly what I wanted and could not be more pleased. Litigation is never pleasant, but having Julie and Drew on my side made things bearable. If I ever need further assistance down the road, my first call will be to LaVan Law.

The LaVan Law Firm has worked on a number of legal issues for my companies over the years. The Principal & Managing Partner, Ms. Julie LaVan, is an excellent and experienced lawyer with an outstanding understanding of the needs of her clients. We find the attorneys and the support staff in this boutique law firm to be easy to work with, and they are focused, direct and attentive. When comparing options for legal services we prefer this boutique firm because of their level of experience. Each of the attorneys is professional and has that personal touch that gives you a feeling of confidence in their work. Ms. LaVan’s passion for law is evident from the first meeting, and you feel that she is working for you as a friend. As for their fees, the LaVan Law Firm fee structure has always been a good value. If you need corporate counsel or litigation representation, I highly recommend that you consider Julie LaVan & The LaVan Law Firm.

My experience with Schall & Barasch was absolutely amazing. Patricia Barasch showed consistent professionalism during the course of my entire case. For three years, Patricia showed empathy, integrity, and dedication. Both Richard and Patricia, would frequently collaborate to make sure that my case was going in the right direction. They were careful, calculated and most importantly caring. At no time did I feel unsupported. Patricia compassionately and with great care made sure both my wife and I were comfortable and happy with the decisions that were presented in settlement. In finality of the case, I feel vindicated and the wrongs that were done to me were substantiated. Both Patricia and Richard are to be thanked for their hard work, dedication and tenacity. I would highly recommend their practice to anyone who may need their services.

I was referred to Patricia Barasch for my wrongful termination and age discrimination case. Although I was going through one of the most difficult times in my life and feeling depressed, worthless and defeated, Attorney Barasch and her partner, Attorney Richard Schall, made me feel confident and secure. I was kept in the loop and told what I should expect during the entire process. Time was taken to thoroughly prepare me for the deposition process. All of my expectations, and then some, were met! I highly recommend this firm if you have any need at all for an employment attorney. Patricia and Richard will advocate for your rights!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Moorestown, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
