I hired Christine to represent me in a contentious divorce. She is a fabulous family law attorney who explained how the process worked in great detail. This was a well organized firm that was prompt with responses. From our first meeting, I was impressed with how she listened and treated me. I would highly recommend her and her team.

I would highly recommend finding a different attorney. Ms. Dalena was completely incompetent with my divorce and cost me thousands of dollars in legal fees. She sat on paperwork and never filed for several weeks. She was completely incompetent while handling what should have been a very easy divorce. The only thing she was timely with was billing..... and there were plenty of bills for work that really accomplished nothing. She has a very high opinion of herself which I certainly do not share. There are plenty of very good attorneys in the area to choose from----my advice it to stay away from Christine Dalena.

Christine Dalena came highly recommended to me by a friend and she did not disappoint. She addressed my issues with the skill, advocacy and urgency that they required. She was responsive and went above and beyond in assisting me. She was clear and right on point with her advice. I would have no hesitancy in recommending her to anyone looking for an extraordinary legal advocate.

I had a divorce attorney from another firm that could not handle my case and referred me to Christine. Although Christine was extremely busy, she took my case. It was a blessing! She is smart and very compassionate. I can't say enough about her. I trust her completely and I highly recommend her.

t's not often that I take the time out of my busy day to write a recommendation about someone who I had come in contact with. However, I feel compelled to let people know how impressed and satisfied I was with the representation that my attorney, Christine Dalena, provided when she prepared my will and the supporting paper work that went with our estate planning. My family has also used Christine and her firm to represent us in our real estate transactions.. She was extremely knowledgeable and aggressive in her representation. Through her excellent negotiation skills she was able to obtain a very favorable result for me while keeping my cost to a minimum. There were many occasions when she could have charged me for services but did not do so. In addition to providing me excellent legal representation she was also knowledgeable our family needs. I would highly recommend her to anybody who is looking for a divorce attorney as well.

Joe guided me through a really tough divorce of almost 2 years. His experience, expertise and care for my legal matters and even just my personal life provided me not only a strong legal safety net, but also someone I can go to when anything arose, big or small. He handles himself with integrity and in my experience around him, has a great and very trustworthy reputation within the legal system with other lawyers, judges and representatives. He just wants what’s legally and lawfully right and takes it personal when he sees otherwise

I have had experience with other family law attorneys, but I can say that John's firm is the best of the bunch. I felt I was getting a whole team to help me. I felt that I was not just a person to bill, but a real person who they cared about. I strongly recommend John and his firm to anyone that needs help.

I consulted with John initially, and thought I couldn’t afford him. To my dismay, I retained another lawyer who was decent but didn’t safeguard issues the way John had outlined in our initial consultation. Unfortunately, due to lack of prevention in my initial trial proceedings, another motion was filed against me, and I then retained his services. I spent over $10k from not utilizing his advice and suggestions. I could have spent less than half of that, if I would have retained him the first time. I cannot promise you that he can save the world; but he will advise you appropriately. He will not let you indulge in the abyss of desire that will never come to fruition. He and his associate, Tom, were up front and honest about what to expect and predict. I’m pleased with his practice and services. He’s reasonable and down to earth. If you need answers to simple questions, subscribe to his YouTube Channel or newsletter. I learned the best way to save money, is to go to him prepared with your documents organized. He’ll handle the rest.

I would highly recommend this law firm. John and Tom went above and beyond to assure that my voice was heard but more importantly they made me feel safe during my entire court proceedings with my ex-husband. That is priceless. For the first time in 30 years they gave me the courage to stand up to my ex. I am extremely happy with the outcome of my case and highly recommend them.

I went to Mr. Barletti after my prior lawyer advised me my case was dismissed for some technical reason I still do not understand. My prior lawyer recommended that I "just drop it". Mr. Barletti took my case, got it restored and got me much more than I ever expected in a settlement. I could not be more thankful!!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Morristown, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
