I hired Mr Lo to help my son-in-law who is in the country illegally , but married to my daughter. From the beginning of the case he was met with vacillation, missing documents, general lack of cooperation. Only through his sheer determination were we able to move to filing for work permits and a green card. it took us the better part of 2 years to reach that point. Only because of his sincere interest in helping my daughter and son-in-law were we able to file all the required paper work. If not for his encouragement I would have stopped the procedure early on. Also I would be remiss if I did not praise his associate, Ms. Yohanna Gonzalez. She was very instrumental in preparing the documents and keeping the family informed and encouraged. This case in now in Chicago being reviewed. We are hoping for the best out come. Nothing is certain especially in this political climate. But I know Attorney Lo put everything he had in helping my family.

Raymond is a great attorney and a great human being! He helped me and my wife win political asylum in US. We initially applied for affirmative political asylum with another attorney. We hired Raymond once we were placed in removal proceedings before immigration judge following our interview with an immigration officer. I am extremely glad we found Raymond. He immediately understood the basis of our fear of persecution. He had full knowledge of our home country conditions including the political and religious (Shia vs Sunni) intolerance. This proved to be extremely important. Contrary to our previous attorney, Raymond always directly dealt with us and we were never made to deal with an assistant, even on phone!! We had countless face to face meetings with him, some of which lasted several hours, for preparation of our case. He always encourage us to contact him if we had any questions/concerns regarding our case. He promptly responded to our email inquiries. We never had any problem in setting up a face to face appointment with him in his New York office (some of which were same day or next business day requests). Raymond is extremely punctual about timely filling of all paperwork. He gave us a timeline for filling of different paperwork and supporting documents. He ensured we understood the timeline and followed it to ensure there were no delays. There were times when I got delayed in procuring the required documents and providing them to Raymond, he contacted me multiple time via emails and phone to ensure I was doing my best to procure the documents so that they can be filed in a timely manner. I always felt Raymond was like a dedicated class teacher who was more concerned about student’s upcoming exam than the student himself. I can’t thank Raymond enough !!! I highly recommend him !!!

I found Mr. Lo through Avvo and was glad I did. He was able to help me through the approval of an immigration case that most lawyers had dismissed earlier. Yohana his paralegal is awesome and is always following up with case updates and next step information. Thank you to both, we have resolved our immigration issue.

Mr. Lo helped me with a very unique case of marital immigration fraud. I was seeking to get peace in my life and was turned down by over 15 immigration attorney who advised they can't help me. I had given up. It was a blessing that I found Mr. Lo. He COMPLETELY understood my unique situation and was able to find a way to give me peace of mind. I truly felt heard, understood and his very attentive nature made me feel like he truly cared and wanted to help. He did help! He gave me closer and I can't thank him enough for it! I can tell you this-if you find yourself in a place of no hope because no other attorney is able to help; call Mr. Lo!!!!!! If you simply need a very good immigration attorney; call Mr. Lo!!!!!!

I found Mr. Lo to be an excellent attorney, who understands how important immigration matters are to the ordinary people involved in them. He explained the law clearly and guided me through each step of the process, minimizing stress to myself and my family. His professionalism and experience in immigration matters made me feel more confident about my application, and I believe his input was key to getting the favorable result I did. Mr. Lo is very personable and approachable, and I found that he was always available to respond to client questions and needs quickly. My experience with him was very positive, and I can therefore recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for an immigration attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New Jersey, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
