My experience with Brian Latimer and his staff has been nothing short of exceptional. From the second I reached out to them for help, I knew I had found the firm to help me navigate a truly stressful and emotional child support case. He and his assistant made the whole process as easy as it could be and took the stress off me. They not only were dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome, but they listened and handled my fears, many questions and high emotions like I was speaking to a dear friend.  Mr. Latimer's knowledge, dedication, and overall kindness when handling myself and my case exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for an amazing lawyer both in court and through the whole process look no further. You have found the absolute very best in Brian Latimer and his staff. I am forever grateful for everything they have done for me and the kindness in the process.

Had two other lawyers for my divorce before I found Brian. All I can say is that I wish I found him first. It would have saved me a lot of aggravation and money. He is definitely aces in my book.Hope I don't need to, but if I do I will call him first.

Thanks to Brian, I kept my house and my kids. He was always responsive and very professional. He kept a cool demeanor at all times but wouldn't let any nonsense from the other side slide. He would clearly explain legal theory and strategy when I had questions and for these reasons, I highly recommend him.

Rita Gribko, Esq. has a heart of gold. She also has the instinct of a true strategist, passion of a zealous advocate, and empathy of a best friend. Rita is, in short, someone anyone would want on their side – especially in a court of law. I had the good fortune of meeting Rita when I was looking for a lawyer to represent me in a contentious civil suit. The lawsuit was taking years, going nowhere, and costing tons. I needed a solution and didn’t know where to find her – until Rita came into the picture. From day one with Rita, she was prepared. She took things under her control so I wouldn’t have to. She told me what I didn’t want to hear but needed to her. She problem solved and got things moving in the right direction. She didn’t make any promises that she couldn’t keep. She always, always, always put the client first. I cannot tell you the number of times that I have referred Rita’s services to friends and persons in legal need. She is the smartest and most authentic person I know. I am so grateful she practices law and wish all professionals were as wonderful as Rita.

Rita has handled two issues I've had. One was family related, one business. On both occasions she went out of her way to help us. She is very responsive. She's fair, and realistic in her approach and doesn't speak to you like a typical lawyer, in lawyer language. Everything is spelled out clearly and in a manner that is understandable. I've dealt with lawyers regularly in my 30+ years in business and I can honestly say, Rita is the finest I've dealt with. I'm the type of person who wants to know the truth and what I'm faced with regard to legal matters. Rita gives me straight answers, no legal "jargon" and tells me what the options are clearly. I recently recommended her to a business colleague and he's also very pleased with Rita's work. She has my highest recommendation.

Ms. Gribko is driven to skillfully represent and think carefully about the details of your case because she actually cares. Unlike large law firms, you get personal attention that is hard to come by when you are just another case file. Ms. Gribko worked tirelessly to deal with our very difficult and complicated multi-state situation. She was always professional, pro-active, insightful and compassionate. I would recommend her counsel to others.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Oakhurst, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
