I highly recommend Robert to anyone with a need for a top litigation attorney. He is knowledgeable, sharp and a great tactician. When I went to court, it was obvious that the judge respected my attorney considerably. I have dealt with many attorneys in the past and without any hesitation Robert will always be my first choice. I am forever grateful for everything he has done for me. Phil M.

You don't often hear the phrase "good bedside manner" when referring to an attorney. Robert has an excellent temperament when dealing with his clients. He is able to take what can be a very arduous process and make it an easy one. He is also one of the most knowledgeable attorney's I've dealt with. I'm sorry I hadn't hired him sooner. Do yourself a favor, hire him!

Aisha was unbelievably helpful when I pursued a case against my league, after sustaining a preventable injury. She was extremely thorough when researching the components of my case and proved to be extremely knowledgeable in what paths to take to reach a favorable outcome. She was always available and worked around my schedule, which was a huge help due to my case being time sensitive. Aisha is extremely clever in how she approaches her work and I highly recommend choosing her as your lawyer

Lana is an excellent real estate attorney. I did a lot of research to find her and it was worth it. Lana helped me buy my first house. She was incredibly helpful, explaining all the details (and there are A LOT of details), and never dismissed any of my concerns - and I had a lot of questions. She is a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Lana to anyone looking to purchase a home. You need a good attorney when you buy a house and Lana is the best. She is very knowledgeable and prepped me on what to expect every step of the way from dealing with real estate agents on both sides of the table to what I should be saying to the people at city hall. Even though the sellers did not have their act together and created multiple delays and complications throughout the process, Lana kept things on track and moving along smoothly on my end. If you are looking for a real estate attorney in New Jersey you should definitely contact her, she is great and her rates are affordable as well.

We are extremely grateful we have found Law Office of Laurie Y Wu. We've been working with Ms. Laurie since filing for K1 -Fiance Visa last 2022 and now for my wife's Adjustment of Status. Both were approved without any problem. Ms. Laurie was so hands-on with the process, she was very thorough and very responsive to all our questions. We highly recommend her!

I cannot say enough great thinks about Laurie. My wife and I have utilized her services many times for the past nine years and her attention, kindness, generosity with her time, and fine attention to detail are all exceptional. We suffered some relatively difficult immigration setbacks during COVID which needed to be resolved and despite the issues Laurie helped us re-navigate the process smoothly and also with her guidance very quickly. I highly recommend her services and there is no one else I would use for immigration related matters but her.

Laurie was amazing. She made the process flawless. You can tell by the way she communicated with me and my fiance that she cares about the success of her clients. She is very knowledgeable in this field and everything that she has told us went exactly as planned and my fiance got everything done in less than a year. Laurie will also be doing the green card for us. Laurie is definitely a must.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Old Bridge, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
