There are so many decisions to be made when legal representation becomes inevitable. Thankfully I chose the best team to represent my name. Laura Mendonca and Cyndi Reeves became my dream team. At a time when you are lost and need a guiding hand, the counsel of Weinberger (Laura Mendonca) proved to be a sound choice. Working with me every step of the way, we mapped out strategy and contingencies for the multitude of challenges which accompany most legal matters. All my thanks and praise to these fine professionals. Thank you Laura and Cyndi for all your hand holding, care and 100% satisfaction!

When I hired Laura she was very honest and direct to the point with my situation. She was aggressive in her letters to the other attorney and actually got the other party to drop their side of the disagreement. Costs were reasonable and money was well spent.

I couldn't be more happier with Laura's outstanding, hard work, dedication, caring attitude, and professional work while I was going through my divorce. As a male in the state of New Jersey, Laura was able to get me everything, and more, I wanted (and needed), while going through this difficult time in my life, due to her hard work and dedication to my case. She went above and beyond all, I would have expected of an attorney, to ensure I received all that I was entitled to. I couldn't be any more happier with my settlement she was able to get for me. As a male, one hears horror stories about the outcomes of males going through a divorce, especially when it involves young children. Laura worked extremely hard to ensure that this was not my situation. I not only walked away with a good settlement, but a better quality of life, thanks to her. Laura's attention to detail, her knowledge and understanding, and expertise in this field led to a very favorable outcome for me and my children. I would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone going through a divorce. One can expect only the best with Laura on their side. As we all know, divorce can be a very stressful and difficult time in one's life. Laura not only helped to reduce the stress and difficulty, but her genuine care and concern helped me out, on a personal level, as well by reassuring, and comforting me when times were tough. I've often told many people that, as a male in the state of New Jersey, I walked away, from my divorce, with more than I would have ever expected to walk away with in this state. Her expertise and knowledge of New Jersey law, pertaining to divorce, ranks among the top. Her concern just wasn't only for me, but also for my twin children as well. She made every effort to make sure that my quality of life and the life of my children came first. During my divorce, there were certain issues that came up, pertaining to safety issues, regarding my children. Laura worked extremely hard to guarantee the safety of my children and was able to prevent them from any harm. Laura certainly is the top in this field of occupation and I'm ever so thankful to have had her as my attorney. I would not hesitate, to ANYONE, going through a divorce, Laura's services. She is not only "just an attorney" but a caring, compassionate, person as well, always maintaining her professionalism each step of the way. Laura is, and always will be, the top of her profession. If you are looking for someone to handle your divorce (be it male or female), do not look any further. Laura is the one who will fight to get you all you are entitled to and then some. If it weren't for Laura, I would not have what I do now, which is; a better quality of life, happiness, and a fair settlement. Working with Laura has been great. I owe so much to her and recommend her to ALL and EVERY/ ANYONE who finds themselves going through a divorce. Thank you Laura for ALL that you have done for me!!!

I highly recommend Mr Nicholas Macri as a lawyer. He handled my sexual harassment case, swiftly and professionally. Any questions I had he answered them with such confidence we won and settled our case. In less than a year. He fully explains everything and help me to understand the whole process, step-by-step this being my first sexual harassment case, I did not know what to expect at first. He never neglected any questions I had, and always respond in a timely manner almost immediately every time, considering what I went through, he made me feel so comfortable. I give him a 10 out of 10 I was highly satisfied with his performance and professionalism in what he does. Thank you so much for your help!

Besides the fact that Alan won my case, what I liked most is that he managed my expectations throughout the process, he is so very knowledgeable about the law, went above and beyond researching whatever it is he needed to research, and held my hand, so to speak, the entire way. Alan is such a nice man, very kind, very smart and funny. He can also be tough and forceful. He had a nice rapport with the judge and I would highly recommend him!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Parsippany, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
