Pros
1
Readily available and easy to communicate with
“As a first time homebuyer, I appreciated having an attorney that was readily available, easy to talk to, and extremely helpful.”
2
Demonstrated expertise and provided sound legal guidance
“I felt very confident in her knowledge and advice. In my situation, requests to enter into an agreement incorrect under NJ law were presented to me. She guided me on how to proceed and offered me the legally correct information.”
3
Attentive to details and efficient in handling matters
“Her attention to detail was impeccable. We showed up at the closing and she was able to move right through the entire process with no issues whatsoever!”
4
Personalized and caring approach
“I always felt I was in very good, honest and caring hands at a difficult time.”
5
Highly professional and hardworking
“She is highly astute, hardworking lawyer at the rise of her carrier and eventually will be running the company she works for now or her own firm.”
Cons
1
Insufficient communication from the firm regarding potential costs
“If I knew that from the very beginning, I would never pursue the annulment scenario and would've saved a ton of money by doing simple divorce. But it was in no way Samantha's fault as 'the client is always right' and I did say that I wanted annulment from the very beginning.”
2
Firm may have prioritized revenue over the client's best interest
“Again, my only regret is that I wish the firm would try much harder to dissuade me from taking this very expensive route in my case, but since it meant much more money to the firm, I can understand why they did not push hard enough to tell me about much greater costs.”

I hired Samantha to help me with a consent Order, I explained to her there was a timeline to meet and she worked diligently to complete my matter. Samantha and her team were quick to answer calls and emails. Trish in billing is also a valued asset to the firm. I would definitely recommend Samantha and this Law Firm.

Not being savvy in NJ alimony laws, I found Samantha extremely helpful. I felt very confident in her knowledge and advice. In my situation, requests to enter into an agreement incorrect under NJ law were presented to me. She guided me on how to proceed and offered me the legally correct information to communicate both knowledgeably and skillfully with my former spouse. Had I not seeked assistance from Samantha and the firm, I would have likely agreed to an unfair solution. I am extremely grateful to Samantha. I always felt I was in very good, honest and caring hands at a difficult time.

Samantha did her best to resolve a case involving dealing with very difficult people on the defendant’s side, who were doing everything possible to stall the case by any means necessary. While attorneys on both sides are supposed to work to resolve the problem, this wasn’t the case. Samantha has to do all the work by herself while dealing with terrible people on the defender’s side. She is highly astute, hardworking lawyer at the rise of her carrier and eventually will be running the company she works for now or her own firm. I only regret that the firm she was working for(even though they warned me that annulment would be much harder to achieve than regular divorce) did not push harder to explain to me that it will cost me x3 - x6 times more if I pursued that option, which I did, and lost a lot of money, just to get a regular divorce at the end anyway because the costs kept rising and I said “enough” when I paid over $30,000 and the case was far from resolved... If I knew that from the very beginning, I would never pursue the annulment scenario and would’ve saved a ton of money by doing simple divorce. But it was in no way Samantha’s fault as “the client is always right” and I did say that I wanted annulment from the very beginning... Again, my only regret is that I wish the firm would try much harder to dissuade me from taking this very expensive route in my case, but since it meant much more money to the firm, I can understand why they did not push hard enough to tell me about much greater costs. Again, it has nothing to do with the high quality work Samantha did during the case, as she is an excellent lawyer. And if her superiors at the firm, told her not to push hard against me changing to a simpler divorce case instead of annulment, she had to follow the company’s orders. And I give her overall work an excellent rating, as she was kind, professional, supportive, cared about the best outcome of the case for me and accomplished that very best outcome. A+ for Samantha.

Sam is knowledgeable and friendly, she went out of her way to accommodate my schedule and had answers to all my questions. A consummate professional, I don't know how she isn't junior partner already.

Besides the fact that Alan won my case, what I liked most is that he managed my expectations throughout the process, he is so very knowledgeable about the law, went above and beyond researching whatever it is he needed to research, and held my hand, so to speak, the entire way. Alan is such a nice man, very kind, very smart and funny. He can also be tough and forceful. He had a nice rapport with the judge and I would highly recommend him!

I highly recommend Mr Nicholas Macri as a lawyer. He handled my sexual harassment case, swiftly and professionally. Any questions I had he answered them with such confidence we won and settled our case. In less than a year. He fully explains everything and help me to understand the whole process, step-by-step this being my first sexual harassment case, I did not know what to expect at first. He never neglected any questions I had, and always respond in a timely manner almost immediately every time, considering what I went through, he made me feel so comfortable. I give him a 10 out of 10 I was highly satisfied with his performance and professionalism in what he does. Thank you so much for your help!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Parsippany, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
