I worked with Rebecca through a very long, protracted divorce case that lasted several years. Rebecca and her team were excellent. I felt like I had someone on my side the entire time, who was invested in the case not just professionally but personally. There were more than several times that I received edited motions back from her in the middle of the night. My ex hired a bull-dog lawyer, and Rebecca stood up to him full-force in court and through her expertly written motions. She is a very hard worker, takes her cases seriously and gives them her time and dedication. I have recommended her to several friends and colleagues.

I would highly recommend Larry’s services to anyone with legal issues. Larry was able to spell out the risks in simple terms and the likely outcomes. He was able to negotiate a very favorable deal that worked as much in my favor as possible. There were two other co-defendants against the state in the matter and while their lawyers may have had more experience, Larry was clearly the most prepared and most professional. Just because a guy has been around for 20 years doesn’t mean he will get you the best outcome. Larry is hungry and smart and that is what matters in court.

I had a pretty serious traffic ticket that had potential for me to lose my driving privileges in the state of NJ. I needed an attorney and did not really have anyone in mind. I was not happy with my previous attorney and was looking to hire someone new. I was given Larry Hardcastle's number from a close friend of mine who had used him in the past and was very happy with his service. When I called Larry, right away I felt confident that he knew what he was talking about. He clearly explained to me why i got my ticket, scenarios on how it could play out, and what needed to be done. He did not beat around the bush and was completely honest with me about possible outcomes as well as how he believed things would play out. When we went to court he seemed to have a very good relationship with the judge and the prosecutor. He acted completely professional and ended up solving all of my issues. I was even thankfully able to keep my DL. When we were finished he sat down with me and answered all of my questions, gave me future advice, and explained to me possible reprocussions if i were to get this ticket again. He genuinly seemed to care instead of just rushing off which was a pleasant bonus to his services provided. Mr. Hardcastle is someone i would certainly hire again in the future.

I've used Pierce for many years from real estate to personal representation and he has always done exceptional for me. Hes knowledgeable and personable and I now after years of legal help from him consider him my friend. Hes a great person to have on your side although sometimes its hard to hear the truth about the outcome of each particular case, he never withholds truth about the legal system as other attorneys would just to make some profit. For these reasons hes very successful and deserves all the credit from his hard work. This is a lawyer and a man who other attorneys should emulate to improve the justice system but I guess if you did that we wouldn't have a Court system, just easy dispute resolution with fair and reasonable outcomes, always. Thanks P.

Mr. Backes is a exceptional lawyer. When no one wanted to help me with my case because my civil claim amount as under $3000.00, he took my case. He informed me from the start if i win, he win, if we lose, we lose, which was understandable. He kept me informed at all times, whether if it was fax, email and/or phone call. He told me step by step what to except. And most importantly explained to me in detailed the terms and in's and out's of the case. I was suing my car dealership for consumer fraud. Someone at the dealership signed my name on the auto loan contract and refused to give me my down payment back and also took my caraway from me. Mr. Backes won me three times the amount I invested into the car. I am very thankful and blessed to have met a lawyer like him. Not too many lawyers are like him; honest and loyal. Thank you Mr. Backes for everything!!!!!

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pennington, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
