Michael is a prompt, accessible, and highly professional lawyer. From the first meeting I was gladly surprised that unlike other lawyers who like to dictate what to do and how the thing should be done, Michael took into consideration all my thoughts and needs developing the plan how best to resolve the issue. He was excellent in oral and written arguments. With Michael’s help I achieved most of my goals in an extremely complicated divorce matter and I thank G-d that He brought me to him.

Michael was referred to me from my previous attorney who was retiring. At first I was a little bit skeptical about the transfer because I was litigating a very high conflict divorce. At the present time I am still getting to know Michael a little bit better but however during the last two court appearances he has demonstrated that he has the skills and knowledge to be an excellent divorce attorney. I used to stay up for many nights and weekends trying to prepare my motions as best I can to assist my attorney but now I no longer worry too much because I know I am in good hands with Michael. He is excellent when it comes to litigations and oral arguments. I would highly recommend to all friends and family who is going through a divorce to give him a chance to demonstrate his skills.

Tim helped me out of a bind. I got a disorderly conduct ticket in Seaside Heights. I was really worried about going to court and all of the penalties. Tim was able to discuss my charges with me and help me understand them. He got back to me very quickly after I called his office. I would recommend hiring Tim if you have gotten into trouble because I received a favorable result.

My attorney brought Vincent DeLuca in for an economic mediation. He was very professional, engaged and effective. I appreciated his humanity and how he handled a difficult situation between two parties who could not come to a reasonable agreement. He got the heart of things in fairly short order and was patient with the bump and grind of the process.

I highly recommend Vincent DeLuca as a collaborative divorce attorney. I hired him back in 2010 for a collaborative divorce, and his involvement helped to make it a success. He was already skilled in that area of law, at that time, despite it being new to many people in NJ. In a collaborative divorce both lawyers become part of the “team”, yet in private they still offer guidance to their clients (that is my take on the process). So I wanted a lawyer who was both a team player and a straight shooter. If I was asking for too much I wanted him to tell me, and if I was not holding a fair line I also wanted to know. Throughout the process he offered that kind of honest guidance to me, and he helped to keep our son’s needs front and center. He also has skills as a mediator, and it was apparent to me that he truly wanted what was best for our son. Vince is also capable of being assertive and seeing through tactics and posturing. I certainly did not want a typical divorce battle, but I want to be clear that if I had one I also would trust that Vince could help to protect me from those pitfalls. In many ways I feel he offers a great blend of all of those skills and needs. He is caring, experienced, creative and tactful. And above all he earned my trust at a high level. I ended up contacting him three other times, and referring a handful of friends to him. I wish you luck on your current challenges and recommend that you consider a consultation with Vince to see if he is a good fit for your needs.

You never expect that when you are married and have children that you will be getting a divorce. I was incredibly fortunate to have Vince as my divorce lawyer. He explained everything to ahead of time and he guided me through the entire process in a manner that always made me feel comfortable and prepared. Everything went the way he told me it would, there were no surprises. Vince is very personable and very knowledgeable. I developed great rapport with him very quickly and felt as though he was always looking out for my best interest. Vince was very instrumental in helping me obtain a settlement that allowed me and my children to retain the marital home thereby minimizing the impact of the divorce on my children. I highly recommend Vince and his team.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
