My friend was a client of Ms. Haythorn. Personally I would say, she is smart and intelligent. However her interaction with the client are very poor. I will not recommend her.

There are few life experiences more traumatic than divorce. In my experience with Jennifer, she was thoughtful, intelligent and compassionate. More importantly, I found her to be very knowledgeable. Her understanding of the case law was significant and Jennifer did an excellent job of explaining the issues and what my options were. Jennifer always considered all my questions thoughtfully, and provided excellent counsel. Jennifer was very detail oriented and the information we provided the court was well received. Her effort on my behalf was outstanding. I have great respect for her and her abilities. I would recommend Jennifer to anyone needing an excellent attorney.

I interviewed many attorney's in my divorce process and some very reputable ones. Without a doubt, I had the very best representation. Even though the fees were on the higher side, I knew I was getting quality representation and a team that put my interests first. The assets were complicated as there was a business involved, and there is no doubt that Jennifer is savvy and sophisticated to handle navigating through the complexities. Our divorce had more than one residence, children, a business and I wanted an unconventional method of proceeding through the process. I felt at every moment, phone call and conference that she was really listening to what was important to me with also balancing making sure I understood my rights. I finalized my divorce fully understanding every step of the way each decision and consequence. Not only is she incredibly smart, organized, efficient, an advocate for her clients - she is kind, compassionate and level headed. You will not be disappointed in your choice of attorney if you choose her.

I have been divorced for over 5 years now. It was 1 year of Jennifer working closely with me. She did intensive research, paid close attention to details and was compassionate to mine and my children needs both financially and emotionally. She passionately negotiated a fair and reasonable settlement but always kept my best interest a priority. Because of this our financial future is secure. This year when trouble arose regarding that settlement she was right there to continue the fight for me and my children. We ended up in court where she adamantly and professionally defended the original agreement in front of a Judge. After a few weeks the judgment was rendered in our favor. Once again her attention to detail, compassion and professionalism won the case for me. I have highly recommended her to many people and they have found her friendly nature, attention to detail, along with a great deal of compassion and knowledge have assured each of them they have retained the best lawyer. I would recommend her to anyone, for any advice, for any case and believe they would be lucky to have her on their side. I know I was, and I can never thank her enough for all she has done for me and my children.

My wife and I just started our association with Fiona about a year ago. She drew up a Will for us along with other related documents. We are extremely pleased. Fiona is charming, very smart, and makes it easy on her clients. She patiently went over the legal papers she drew up for us and answered all of our questions. She also gave us some sound advice on some pesky questions. Her fees, also, are reasonable. We feel fortunate to have Fiona as our lawyer.

From the moment we entered her office, the staff greeted us with warmth and professionalism. Fiona is clearly a very experienced attorney, and her friendly demeanor immediately put us at ease. As for many people, the discussion of wills and estates could be quite daunting and somewhat stressful. However, Fiona spent as much time as we needed to carefully explain, in detail, our options and decisions at every step of the process. She didn’t hesitate to answer and clarify whatever questions or concerns we had, and we left her firm feeling very relieved and confident in knowing that we were in excellent hands.

Expect expert, professional, knowledgeable, cordial services. Each person showed interest in me and eager to address my specific needs. Fiona Van Dyck met with me virtually and then in person. My calls and every question was responded to with knowledge. I needed multiple services and each was provided in an exemplary fashion. Fiona and everyone there was a pleasure to work with. Each held my situation in confidence. I recommend Van Dyck Law LLC without reservation.

I found an honest immigration lawyer and had to write about it! Mr. Lilienthal office is professional without being overbearing. The service fees are reasonable and he does the paperwork. I have nothing but good things to say. From the first phone call where I set up my appointment, I can say you will be in good hands. No unnecessary fees, hard work, caring, honest and clean work - I hope this helps many others to avoid getting scammed by bad immigration lawyers.

Chris was a huge help in purchasing our first home. We had a short time-line and he always called us right back with knowledge and advice. He took time to answer all our nervous first-time-buyer questions, was very detail oriented, kept us on track and protected us through it all. It's a complicated and fast moving process, and our experience went smoothly and ended perfectly thanks in large part to Chris Strahan. I've recommended him to friends and recommend you give him a call too.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Princeton, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
