Kim Jinks provided me with excellent legal services over a 3 year period and counting. I went through an extremely high conflict divorce, which came with its fair share of emotional roller coasters making a straight-shooting lawyer absolutely necessary to keep me from falling off the deep end. This is the type of lawyer you see in the movies where you actually put your full trust in your lawyer, and it was absolutely worth it. I was in court at least eight times. Custody issues with multiple children, ex in-law drama, you name it. Kim made herself available to me for whatever I needed. I shopped around for lawyers (paying all of them a consultation fee) and it was very clear to me that I would have a good working relationship with the Jinks Law Firm. I watched my ex go through five lawyers while mine was highly intelligent, consistent, and persistent (my ex’s clearly were none of those things). She is 100% honest (brutally, sometimes) and I cannot imagine where my life would be right now had I not hired her at the start of my divorce. I landed on my feet and I truly attribute most of that to the investment I made in Kim. High-quality & high-class. I couldn’t be more grateful!

Ms. Jinks was phenomenal with handling my case. When ever we were building any file, she would listen and let me speak to ensure the message was conveyed clearly to the court. I feel like my case was a little different than most but Ms. Jinks did whatever she had to, to make sure I was taken care of. Everything that I was looking to have resolved in my case was handled. When in hearings, Ms. Jinks made sure that my voice was heard and did not let anyone step on me. She is both sympathetic and assertive. I appreciate everything Ms. Jinks did for me and my family and will absolutely hire her again if need be. Thank you, Kim!

She works well with her clients to minimize fees. Just as an example, I was just over $12,000 and my Ex-wife was almost $45,000. She is truthful and upfront and stops you from arguing meaningless points, but will fight hard for things that you win and will. I couldn't have asked for someone better and my team won the race - No doubt about it

Chris is an amazing professional. Known him since 2008. He had helped me with buying two homes and my children buy their first homes. He is the epitome of what you would want in an attorney. Makes you feel safe and secure!

Chris was a huge help in purchasing our first home. We had a short time-line and he always called us right back with knowledge and advice. He took time to answer all our nervous first-time-buyer questions, was very detail oriented, kept us on track and protected us through it all. It's a complicated and fast moving process, and our experience went smoothly and ended perfectly thanks in large part to Chris Strahan. I've recommended him to friends and recommend you give him a call too.

My wife and I just started our association with Fiona about a year ago. She drew up a Will for us along with other related documents. We are extremely pleased. Fiona is charming, very smart, and makes it easy on her clients. She patiently went over the legal papers she drew up for us and answered all of our questions. She also gave us some sound advice on some pesky questions. Her fees, also, are reasonable. We feel fortunate to have Fiona as our lawyer.

From the moment we entered her office, the staff greeted us with warmth and professionalism. Fiona is clearly a very experienced attorney, and her friendly demeanor immediately put us at ease. As for many people, the discussion of wills and estates could be quite daunting and somewhat stressful. However, Fiona spent as much time as we needed to carefully explain, in detail, our options and decisions at every step of the process. She didn’t hesitate to answer and clarify whatever questions or concerns we had, and we left her firm feeling very relieved and confident in knowing that we were in excellent hands.

My calls and every question was responded to with knowledge. I needed multiple services and each was provided in an exemplary fashion. Fiona and everyone there was a pleasure to work with. Each held my situation in confidence. I recommend Van Dyck Law LLC without reservation.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Princeton, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
