I can’t say enough good things about the team at McOmber, McOmber & Luber! From my very first consultation, they went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and put me at ease, which was something I desperately needed given the circumstances. All of the attorneys and staff were not only incredibly knowledgeable but also patient and empathetic, taking the time to explain each step of the process. I was fortunate enough to work closely with Johnathan Azar, whose responsiveness and communicative skills are incredibly impressive. No matter when I reached out, I never had to wait long for a reply or an update filled with his sympathy, warmth, reassurance, making me always felt prioritised. As a whole, they truly made me feel like I was in safe hands and consistently went the extra mile to ensure I felt supported. The sense of security they provided, combined with their professional expertise, made a world of difference! I couldn’t have asked for a better team to guide me through this challenging time, and I am beyond grateful for their help. Highly recommend them to anyone needing legal support!

Working with Mcomber was seamless. Tiffany was always responsive and took her time to explain every step in detail. I never worried about the outcome because I knew that the firm had my best interest at heart. I am very happy to close this chapter. If you are ever in need of advice or council I highly recommend McOmber because it is not just their job, they actually care and it shows in their representation. Huge Thank you to Tiffany!

Working with Cadence Hulme at McCaskill was a pleasure. I felt confident that she was extremely qualified to review my divorce agreement and reassure me as to its fairness. Then I went back to have her witness my signing of the final version. She’s so warm and friendly and it made a distasteful task so much easier. If I ever need a family lawyer again I won’t hesitate to give her a call.

Cadence Hulme & the entire staff of Jennifer McCaskills office are the kindest, most understanding, compassionate, hard working law office I've ever encountered. They are not only highly knowledgeable & professional, but truly care about your case as if it affected their own personal lives as well, & the level of compassion they show is like no other. It's difficult enough dealing with such sensitive painful & emotional issues, but having Cadence & her staff on your side working for you is like giving your problems to angels who are true warriors. Highly recommend this amazing firm, can not say enough about them!

Mrs. Mccaskill, Jennifer has been nothing but lovely to me and helped me out when I needed it the most. I’ve had several up-and-down situations with navigating through sticky custody situations , trying to get advice even recently even though , she was my lawyer in my final divorce case in 2018. She still continues to be a wonderful support and unbelievably knowledgeable on all aspects of Monmouth County court system, She is also very empathetic person, that has nothing but the best intentions for her clients!!!! She is not the type of lawyer that are just feeling as if , you’re just a number in her computer, you become friends, and become part of the community with other clients, that she has developed over the years

Reassuring, articulate, knowledgeable, and effective. John Patti is by far the best Family Lawyer my husband and I have worked with to date. The legal process of Family law holds much complexity, especially emergent situations that require an abundance of legal knowledge and expectation setting. John helped outline every step we needed to take, and in turn, we obtained FULL custody of my husbands daughter in our child custody case against his ex. John Patti was selected on a recommendation from a trusted family friend, and this selection was some of the best advice we have ever received.

John is a highly respected professional advocate who has represented me in a very hostile divorce unfailingly. He knows the system and is extremely effective in front of a judge and/or when putting my adversary on the stand. I would highly recommend John to anyone seeking a true matrimonial Attorney.

John is an amazing lawyer, I was looking for a lawyer in Monmouth county to handle my divorce and chose John, he did everything in his power to make me feel like I was his only client. He kept me updated and when it came to representing me in court as my divorce attorney I could not be more happy with the results. He got me a uncontested divorce in New Jersey, which is unheard of! I'm so glad I chose John as my family law lawyer!!! He is still helping me with my child support stuff right now and is still doing great.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Red Bank, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
