Called for a consultation and then STEVE laughed at me and hung up while I was speaking. He didn’t even listen to anything I said. I called back and he has been forwarding my call to voicemail since!!! Extremely unprofessional!!!

I cant say enough about Stacey Miller. She puts her heart and soul into everything she does. She has been with me through a very long divorce. After a bad day she would call me on her personal time to see how I am doing. She will NEVER take advantage of your money like some lawyers would. She is a voice of reason when you cant always figure things out. I absolutely trust her in everything she does. If more lawyers were like her, the divorce process would be so much better.

I never thought I would be in this position in life at my age and nearing retirement. So a year ago when I found out my wife was not honoring our marriage vowes I knew it was over. I spoke to several of the best attorneys in Englewood and Tenafly and Hackensack that were recommended but I always felt like they looked at me like their next paycheck. They didn't care about what I was really going through. I didn't hire any of them. Stacey was the last number on my list so I called her and we met to review options. I cannot begin to explain what a difference I felt with her. I immediately felt that she really knew how to assess my situation and how she identifies the critical details and plans that must be made at the start of the divorce process. I hired her on the spot. She got the right investigation going to prove my wife's infidelity. She gave me strategies to protect my assetts. Everything was clearly explained. She proved to me how valuable and priceless a professional experienced lawyer is. I'm still waiting for the process to complete due to this whole virus situation we are going through. I have peace of mind knowing Stacey is taking care of it.

When I met with Stacey to handle my divorce, I felt that she was capable and she guided me on critical matters that I had not considered. In court, she really shines. I hired her and while I hope I never have to go through a divorce again, if I do, she will be my only choice for representation.

From our first conversation, I knew that Mr. Beane would take good care of me and that I was in good hands. Mine was not a straightforward situation, and I really needed a guide and an advocate. I knew right away that he would fight for my children and me, and he did. He explained everything, patiently and kindly answered my many questions, and calmed my fears at every turn. His assistant Darlene is wonderful as well. I highly recommend this team. In fact, I look forward to working with them again when I buy a house.

Christian and I worked together for two years regarding my family law case. He was always consummately professional, highly ethical, and took my case seriously. He has experience and knowledge of the court and procedures, and was superbly prepared for oral arguments. He has good working relationships with other professionals in the county and surrounding area. His knowledge of custody issues and the financial issues encountered were very good. He and his legal assistant, Darlene, were always very responsive and able to talk to me to set expectations so that I was not surprised by what was going to happen. I thank Christian and Darlene for their assistance, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for family law matters.

We hired Sandy to handle our case about a medical billing dispute. He was thoroughly prepared and put a great deal of thought into the defense of our case. We have dealt with lawyers for various reasons before and our experience has been that they tend to do the least amount of work possible. Sandy broke that experience and really worked to help us as much as he could. It was a pleasure to work with him and we highly recommend him.

In my case he never gave up even though the lawyer that was defending the insurance company was very stubborn. It was Sandy's extra effort that got the job done and for that I am very appreciative!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of River Edge, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
