Absolute criminal. She failed to pay me as her expert witness despite hours of research and hours of deposition. This is how she treats those on her “team!” Beyond that, she appears barely competent to help you legally. Steer clear of this bumbling attorney.

Do not support this firm. Specifically, do not use Cynthia Matheke. Completely unethical lawyer who fails to pay her expert witness despite hours of work, including a deposition. Refuses to respond to inquiries, dodges certified mail, and is never around when called. Stay far far away! If this is how she treats people on her “team,” imagine how she’ll treat you. Run, don’t walk away.

Pros
1
Experienced and knowledgeable lawyers who are highly skilled in personal injury and medical malpractice cases
“Matthew Mendelsohn and Adam Epstein took up the case. Recently, after 5-6 years I received a surprise bill of an outstanding from a service provider for the accident-related services provided to me. After the inquiry, Adam explained that a "Letter of Protection" was issued by the firm to the provider who was not in-network of my insurance, which otherwise took care of expenses by claiming expenditures from the Third Party Insurance of the other party involved in the accident.”
2
Provide excellent communication and keep clients informed throughout the legal process
“Adam Epstein handled my motor vehicle accident. Not only did he perform professionally but he also took the time to find out how I was doing and showed that he cared about my health and well-being.”
3
Achieve favorable and satisfactory settlements for their clients
“I am so glad she did. The thoroughness and professionalism of the law firm helped me tremendously during the entire process. I was kept informed every step of the way and knew that my lawyers were doing everything necessary on my behalf.”
Cons
1
Some lawyers may be rude, dismissive, or more focused on a quick settlement than the client's best interests
“To begin, he is rude, very rude, demeaning, egotistical and not a good person. Additionally, whether he intends to be or not (I suspect the latter, as it is my opinion that he is not nearly as intelligent as he believes), he is very transparent, and that is not a good thing for him. It's very clear, deep down inside, this despicable human being (my opinion) is not looking out for any of his clients best interests, rather, he is going to settle as soon as possible to take his cut and move on to his next victim; don't let it be you.”
2
The firm may not take on certain types of cases, even if they advertise handling them
“SO I HAVE A POTENTIAL CASE OF MEDICAL MALPRACTICE CAUSE I JUST HAD A BABY ON THE 15TH OF SEPTEMBER AND HAD A C SECTION WITH A TUBAL LIGATION AND MY DOC TOOK OUT MY OVARIES AND I WAS TOLD BY A NUSRE AND SHOWN THE PROOF BUT NOT HOSPITAL AND OB DIC IS DENYING IT WON'T GIVE ME A ULTRASOUND TO SEE I DID A CONSULTATION WITH THIS FIRM TILD THEM EVERYTHING AND THEN ATTORNEY SAID THEY DIDN'T WANT TO MOVE FOWARD WITH ME AND SAID IT'S NOT A CASE THEY WOULD HANDLE AND IT'S A MEDICAL MALPRACTICE CASE THEY ADVERTISE THEY HANDLE AND TAKE MEDICAL MALPRACTICE CASES BUT JUST NOT MIND THEN WON'T GIVE ME A REASON WHY SO I WOULD NOT GO FOR THIS LAW FIRM THEY ARE IGNORANT AND RUDE LAZY AND UNPROFESSIONAL.”

I hired Attorney Soklnick to help rectify several issues vis a vis my gut renovation of a condo I purchased on the UES (10028) of Manhattan. He was very helpful, smart, attentive to detail, and thorough. He has integrity and wit. For me, character is essential in a person who works for, and with, me. Martin Skolnick, Esq., has abundant character. I recommend and endorse him totally. We were successful in our mission!

Another lawyer told me that it was doubtful that I would prevail in keeping a property that a large wealthy bank had initiated a lawsuit to take from me. Mr. Skolnick was successful and the bank was not able to take the property from me. I had foreclosed on the property, and the bank was trying to get it back. Because of Mr. Skolnick's capable representation, I still am the proud owner of that property. .

David Mazie, in my opinion, is the best Attorney in the Country. Although he is well versed in legal knowledge, he dealt with our family with the utmost compassion and respect. Without being too specific, our case was nine years old when presented to him. He tirelessly worked around the clock with his firm, sometimes meeting or calling us after hours or on weekends. He takes his cases personally, so, he is very selective with his law partners and other professionals he brings into every case. You would really think that a lawyer of his stature wouldn't be pleasant to work with, but our family found him very personable and he can relate to people from all walks of life. We prayed for a top notch Attorney like Atty. Mazie and our prayers were answered. We had spoken with other lawyers but none were as professional and dedicated to our case than David Mazie. Our long and drawn out law suit was wrapped up by Mr. Mazie with amazing speed It only took him two years to research and finally try our case, which we won !! To get the best results for his clients, he only works with the best - that's it! That's his secret, if any at all. He brought in professionals from different states who are all at the top of their field. We know that this is more expensive to do but Atty Mazie is so confident in winning that he stops at nothing to give his clients more than a fair chance should there be a trial. He uses the latest technology in and out of the courtroom. An example of this is that he brought in computer graphics specialists to reenact the specifics of the case so that the jury could fully understand the details of the case. Please look no further for an Attorney. DAVID MAZIE IS THE BEST LAWYER!. What more do you need to contact him? Be fortunate if he takes your case, because you know you are in good hands with a top notch and well respected lawyer. Good Luck !!

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Roseland, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
