Laurie is indeed a blessing as stated in previous reviews. I got RFE on self petitioned EB-2 NIW and wanted an expert opinion,I googled best lawyer in NJ for EB-2 cases and Laurie firm popped up,I read all the reviews and knew that she was the right person to speak with.I immediately booked a consultation time with her firm. Laurie was quick at her response and asked me to send my RFE and my personal statement ahead of the meeting, on the day of the meeting I would tell she was so exceptional in her knowledge on EB-2, she worked me through my case, highlighted areas I should improve on and she willingly spent extra time with me outside my consultation hour and gave me general immigration advise on my immigration plans. In addition to the consultation, she did follow up with me via email and sent me some materials to help me respond to the RFE and to God be the glory,I got my EB-2 NIW approved 2days after submission. Thank you Laurie for your kind support,I am officially your client on all legal matters going forward. I concur with google that she is the best EB-2 NIW lawyer in NJ and I strongly recommend her for all immigration related matters, be sure you will get top-notch services like I did.

Immediately after completing my divorce mediation training with the NJ Association of Professional Mediators, I signed up for Michelle and Randi’s hands-on, practical mediation training early in 2023. This wasn’t a review of the coursework. They fashioned a step-by-step launch-your-practice plan by providing three levels of business growth paths. How to bill clients and get paid. Choosing a name for my business. I learned how to engage in grass roots marketing, how to make myself official with marketing tactics created for today’s fast-paced Search Engine Optimization culture, and, most importantly, how to handle diverse clients. Their program is unique because, with clients’ permission, I observed numerous mediation sessions. The best part was attending follow up sessions with same couple - seeing the process evolve through emotions, differences, to a resolution was priceless. If you want the nitty gritty ins-and-outs on how to position your business so you start booking paying clients, work with Michelle and Randi.

I am blessed to have found Laurie to work on my EB-2 NIW immigration case. Laurie is an exceptional lawyer with strong values. She is caring, compassionate, and hard working, and will go above and beyond to defend your case. I had spoken with a couple of lawyers prior to Laurie, and I had a gut feeling that she would defend my case best, which turned out to be true. She was very honest and forward from day one, and it was clear that she was very experienced and knew what she was doing. Laurie was always available and quick to respond throughout the process, even when I had general questions that weren't directly related to the case. Laurie was also my support system going through this very challenging period. I can't thank Laurie enough!

Great attorney! I used him because my client (sellers) in a real estate transaction wanted to use him. I had no previous experience with Paul and his team, but I was so pleasantly surprised. Needless to say, Paul has made it onto our teams Preferred List of attorneys.

I was and am impressed with Laurie's professionalism, accessibility, prudent counsel, honesty, alacrity, and compassion. When Laurie prepared my case to submit to USCIS, I had the opportunity to review the cover letter that she attached with the case, and it was so compelling and excellently put together that I believe it was one of the reasons my work authorization was approved in less than 4 weeks after the case was submitted. I am still navigating the immigration journey, but so far, I have an excellent attorney who is there with me every step of the way. I highly recommend her and her team.

Thomas is the best law attorney I have ever worked with. I really felt safe with his work. From our first meeting, he explained everything to me in terms I could easily understand and was always very responsive when I had questions outside of our meetings. If you are looking for a knowledgeable attorney at a great price, then go to Thomas.

Just Awesome!!! I had an issue with my license as it wasn't going through the registration process and I thought, it is suspended and got nervous as anyone would. After looking up few numbers and reaching through Lawyers.com, was able to connect with Mr.Verrastro who initiated the call and even after I missed his call, he picked up my call and listened to the issue with extreme patience. After listening to the problem and current situation, Mr. Verrastro took few seconds to figure out the potential problem and advised me to go to DMV and speak to them. Honestly, I wasn't expecting such a busy person allocating this much time and propose a solution as well. Five Stars ***** and a huge recommendation for anyone who needs help with legal matters. Once again, thank you Mr. Verrastro. Regards, Asad S. Hussain

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Scotch Plains, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
