Mr. Whelan is very straight forward and was honest with me about the situation I presented to him. He could have easily told me anything and I could have been paying fees. I would call him again and tell as many people I know who could benefit from his services.. Thank You

WOW! I got myself in some serious trouble. I had 1st and 2nd degree charges. Thankfully my parents found fantastic lawyers at the firm of Robert's and Teeters. It was a long 5 years dealing with this case. I immediately said to them I want to take this case to trial and they gave me the full confidence from the beginning. Due to the pandemic the case was prolonged for so long but I'm 100% satisfied with this firm. Matt and Mike are the perfect team. They work together so smooth and it's actually entertaining watching them consult eachother about certain situations. Mike is very knowledgeable and Matt is simply a great talker in court. They don't leave any stones unturned. They never give up any battle and at the same time are prepared for any outcome. They aren't the type to lie to you. They tell you upfront the risks of any decisions beforehand. They even worked with us for the payments. All around great lawyers and I see them doing great things for others. I ended up finally winning the trial and got all charges acquitted. I will definitely recommend them to anyone in need of professional and honest lawyers. I'm truly blown away by Matt's performance in the court room. I'm so happy with everything and he is truly an angel sent from heaven. He puts his heart in to his work and faught for me as if we were family. I'll never forget this!...Don't hesitate to use these guys. Their names will go big very soon!

Great to work with! I had a case in Middlesex County. There was a specific outcome I hoped for. Matthew Teeter laid out how the case would go, gave me the best and worst case scenario, he set me up with realistic goals and expectations, and he even gave me advice on what to do after the case to help with the outcome. When attending court, I was kept in the loop when I needed to be, and given proper instructions and guidance for each step of the way. In doing so, he earned me the exact positive result that I had hoped for. If I find a need for an attorney in the future, I will plan on reach out for his services again.

Attorney Kisha M. Hebbon came highly recommended by a close friend and I totally agree, I am extremely grateful for all of the work Ms. Hebbon & her team provided during my divorce, upon retaining the firm you are provided a package which includes legal terminology etc. this really came in handy for me not being knowledgeable of family/divorce law, I mean she/they made sure you understood the process along the way, very knowledgeable in this craft, she spent countless hours combing though all of the requested documents I provided. They were very professional during some of the curve balls being thrown our way, Kisha handled them appropriately. At the end of the day I am blessed with the outcome because I had way more at stake than my ex. I highly recommend Kisha M. Hebbon law firm. I am writing this review today to express my gratitude.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Somerset, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
