I am immensely grateful to Chris's team (Chris Olsen, attorney & Michelle Stasil, attorney's assistant) for their unwavering dedication and exceptional service over the past three years. From the very beginning, Chris showcased outstanding communication skills. This review is to respond from the claims Mr. Olsen put in his response regarding my previous review. Firstly, I would like to address his assertion that he was responsible for the dismissal of my case. It is important to clarify that the evidence proving the falsification of evidence by the Prosecutors office (not the federal authorities) was discovered by my wife and me. Mr. Olsen did not uncover any of this evidence. Additionally, Mr. Olsen mentioned that he would not handle my lawsuit, despite the fact that during our initial meeting, there was extensive discussion wherein he clearly indicated that either he or another member of his firm would handle the lawsuit. It is worth noting that my ability to pursue legal action was hindered because Mr. Olsen failed to file a tort notice with the state, causing the expiration of the statute of limitations for my case. Furthermore, Mr. Olsen's statement regarding the time it took to convince the prosecutor of the falsified evidence is inaccurate, as the evidence discovered by my wife was unequivocal. Moreover, every aspect of my case was mishandled by law enforcement, including the illegal execution of the search warrant. It appears that Mr. Olsen was collaborating with the prosecutor to mitigate the consequences of their errors. Notably, Mr. Olsen abandoned me when I sought assistance in retrieving my property, which had been unlawfully seized during the search warrant. To date, I have not received my property back, and Mr. Olsen has provided no assistance. His exact words, "I was hired to get your case dismissed, not to get your seized property back," were disheartening. It is my belief that when retaining an attorney for case representation, all aspects pertaining to the case should be within the scope of their responsibilities. I assert that Mr. Olsen's conduct is not only indicative of legal negligence, but also raises ethical concerns. I am prepared to substantiate all of these claims with indisputable evidence. Mr. Olsen, the truth will inevitably come to light, and you should reflect on your actions. Accountability will prevail, and you will be held responsible for your conduct.

HORRIBLE LAWYER!!!!! 0 if I could. This man is not a lawyer he’s an OP. He’s working for the opposite team. DO NOT get deceived from his ratings years ago, they had to be before he got caught up with the legal system and decided to sink or swim. He’s not effective, very rude and unprofessional. As you can see by all of his replies. He’s disclosing bits of information of peoples cases online. You get what you pay for. Don’t waste your time or money . Jay was right below, too bad I didn’t see his review before he was hired. My friend was in a bind and needed someone asap. His first meet, he was an hour late. That said everything. But again desperate times called for desperate measurers. Ever since he’s been nothing short of shady, arrogant, and absent. Purposely ignored us to get I and his client rattled up, to try and blame us for harassment to be able to remove himself from my case and steal my money. He does the bare minimum, (shows up to court). No follow ups, nothing. Resulting to frustration and anxiety . Very insensitive and juvenile. When confronted, he hangs up and ignores you. Warning DO NOT HIRE!!!

This attorney was hired to help one of my friends and stole her money and took himself off the case. Do not hire this very incompetent, disrespectful lawyer.

With many attorneys, they cause the problems so when the solve the problem, they look like the hero. In the case of Dave, he just gets the job done without any drama. Buying a home is stressful enough. You do not need your attorney adding more stress. Dave gets you to the finish line in a professional way.

I had an exceptional experience with Mark and his law firm. I worked in the legal industry for 25 years so my standards are high. My condo sale was complicated, as I moved out of state shortly after listing the unit. Mark worked with me as if I was in just the other room. I have a serious medical condition, and selling the condo with as little stress as possible was very important. Mark was sensitive, professional and responsive. Despite my inexperience in dealing with real estate matters, Mark was patient yet productive. I would recommend Mark and his staff to anyone without hesitation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Somerville, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
