Ms. Schreiber was extremely knowledgeable and totally put our minds at ease while my husband and I obtained guardianship for our disabled son. She made it seem easy and worry-free. Parents of disabled children have so many other concerns that they need to address over the course of their children's lives that it was such a pleasure having Ms. Schreiber represent us. Along with being professional, she was also very loving and kind. We can't thank her enough!

Ms. Schreiber has a thorough and accurate knowledge of the disabled. She answered specific questions regarding the guardianship of my very handicapped daughter. Ms. Schreiber became familiar with my daughter's case and did not generalize questions about her disability or her care. She made sure information was provided to me at my convenience, when I was available, and fought for my child not to have to attend a court appearance. This would have been tramatic due to her disabling condition. All questions were answered and I was at ease with the level of confidence she held and passed on to me throughout the guardianship process. I would recommend Ms. Schreiber to those seeking compassionate assistance.

I first met Annemarie about a year ago when I needed someone who I could trust & provide advice on matters of selling my parents place of residence due to illness, passing & the settling of estate matters. It was refreshing to finally have an attorney who took the stress & worry out of handling such matters during extremely difficult times. Once these items were completed, to which great care & attention were given, I then retained her services for my own personal family needs. Again everything went like clockwork; smoothly & without any stress associated with such issues & needs. Annemarie's experience, guidance & assistance on matters regarding estate planning as well as social security disability were/and are invaluable. This is the first time that I can say in all my years of working with attorneys, from a professional & personal standpoint, that someone actually responded back, put forth a plan, executed it, advised well, followed up, made sure "t's" were crossed, "i's" dotted and returned calls & emails in more than a timely fashion. She has two wonderful assistants, Sandra and Grace, who, together and individually, form a great team. Annemarie's values, experience and care for her clients definitely sets her apart from the rest. No one client is the same or has the same need to which Annemarie understands and pays great attention to. Without hesitation, I have already recommended Annemarie to others and will continue to do so.

Ms. Rybar, is an outstanding lawyer. She took my case over from an inadequate lawyer and saved my life. She handled my case all the way through an eleven day trial straight through the closing of our marital home. She did her homework and got me pension money the other lawyer said I wasn’t entitled to and and she had my back when no one else did. I would highly recommend her services to anyone.

Ms. Rybar was very knowledgeable about the issues regarding my case. Upon our very first meeting, I was quickly put at ease about the case at hand. She, and her staff, kept in touch with me and were available to speak to me frequently about questions I had as the process rolled on. I have already recommended her to a couple of guys at work in similar situations.

Agnes helped me keep what is most important to me: my family intact. My ex wife filed a motion to relocate with our 11 year-old son some 3,000 miles away. We had shared custody since our divorce 7 years prior and I had been exercising in excess of 104 overnights per year with him. I didn't really have the resources (due to a very bad child support deal I agreed to in a pro-se PSA) to hire an attorney but I had no choice, fighting the removal was paramount. So I borrowed from family and interviewed several attorneys. Most attorneys I interviewed were very cold, and didn't offer much hope. The one thing that they were all sure about was that this was going to be an expensive case to litigate. Agnes was realistic about my chances but not defeatist. She was also understanding about my financial situation and willing to work with me. Hiring her was the best decision I could have made. I was a very "hands-on" client and Agnes always listened and incorporated my viable arguments into the case. She always replied to me in a timely manner, was never dismissive or condescending. She genuinely cared about the outcome of my case. She was obviously very knowledgeable about family law but that didn't stop her from investigating unique aspects of my case that helped us build a strong argument. At the end of our year-plus battle, the court denied my ex wife's request in unequivocal terms. I could never adequately express my gratitude for the job Agnes did for me and my family and I would recommend her services highly to anyone in need of an honest, hard-working family lawyer.

John handled my divorce , which was very complicated and challenging. From the first day I met john through the day my divorce was finalized, I felt comfortable and confident that I was in the best hands. He went above and beyond. John was available to answer my questions any time day or night., and always put my mind at ease with his calm nature. Since my divorce , John has represented me with two other issues, involving my ex husband, again with professionalism and kindness. Through such a difficult time in my life, john made me like I was not alone, he knew exactly how to handle my exhubands antics and always made me feel safe. I can not say enough positive things about John. He is a life saver.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Toms River, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
