Steven Passarella and his team, especially Diane, are all wonderful to work with. Steven managed our case through part of COVID and ensured we stayed on track to close it out. I appreciated all his advice and guidance through my Partition Request. I highly recommend choosing Steven!

They are rude in not returning my call. At least call and say that you can't help. That is very bad business etiquette.

Steve Passarella has been my attorney for about 9 years. When I went to Steve I had lost all hope of retrieving the money I had invested in a business that I was tricked into. Long story short Steve persevered and fought for me, it was a difficult case because I signed a bad contract....my fault....I ended up getting all the money I had invested. Steve believed in my and I in him. Steve Passarella is the best. Don’t hesitate to call him. Sincerely Kathy Negrón

Mr. Trimble provided me great advice when faced with an improperly titled vehicle purchase. I followed his suggestions and not only received my paperwork but also received compensation for my time and efforts. Do not hesitate to speak with John if you need legal assistance, he is forthright and knowledgeable.

Cathy represented me in my disability case and she was excellent in every way one would expect from an attorney. She was extremely knowledgeable, responsive, and explained thoroughly and concisely the various stages of the case. I would be happy to recommend her.

I met with Mrs. Brackin in June of 2014 to discuss the appeal for my disability case denial. I had applied myself the first time around, naively thinking that the process would be fairly simple. The first thing that struck me was that not only was I there to see if I wanted to hire her but she was looking at me to see if she would take on my case. Not because my case was difficult but she wanted to make sure I was honest. My family and I appreciated that because it showed us that she wouldn’t take on just any case but only the cases that were honest. We hired Mrs. Brackin the next day and she went to work for us. My original application was filed in November of 2013, I finally received my Fully Favorable Decision in April of 2017, and received my full lump sum retro pay in September. Three years and three months after hiring her we have hope. Becoming disabled is agonizing, losing the life you had and your health. Watching your family agonize as you’re hospitalized time after time after time. How you are battling for your life, watching the fear in your family’s eyes and also agonizing over your financial situation. Mrs. Brackin battled for us from the day we hired her until the retro payment was deposited. She never stopped. She was patient and professional and explained every single step of the process. She never made promises or guarantees. If you are applying for disability and you need an experienced, compassionate, professional attorney, Cathy Brackin is the only one to consider. We cannot thank her enough she’s truly a blessing.

Not enough can be said about Mr. Carter’s professionalism both in and out of the courtroom or in this case virtual court room. If you ever find yourself coming out of an extremely toxic relationship and end up in a bogus domestic violence situation do yourself a favor and contact Mr. Carter first. The staff at Hoffman Dimuzio is very friendly and caring. Mr. Carter himself went above and beyond for me and the unfortunate situation I was put in to make sure everything was dismissed. Before and after every trial he would call to touch base or recap and was prompt with answering questions and proving advice. I came in needing a lawyer and left with someone who felt like a friend or family member. His understanding of the laws and your needs exceeded my expectations. He cares, he listens and takes action when needed. I hope to never need his services again but would not hesitate to use Mr. Carter if I ever did. Thank you Mr. Carter for everything.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Turnersville, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
