Our experience with JoAnn was excellent, she guided us through the bankruptcy, explained everything to us. She was always available to us with any questions we had. She was always positive and therefore it made us a ease as we were very nervous, we did not know what to expect and JoAnn made us very comfortable as she was very professional and she cared about our situation. We will definitely recommend her.

JoAnn is great! She came highly recommended. She is honest, experienced and reliable. I've sought her out on a few things and she is truly trustworthy to help you. Her rates are more than fair, she WORKS on your case to the fullest until it's settled. Plus she is easy to talk to and always took my call or got right back to me. I can't recommend her enough! Thank you JoAnn!

She was with us from day one. If we had questions to ask the realtor, it went through her. If something was going that she did not like we got to the bottom of it. I am glad we had her on our side.

A couple days after my car accident in 2014, I received an attorney refferal for JoAnn from a friend. Originally I had no plans of using an attorney. However, after a brief consultation with JoAnn I realized how little I knew because I was never in a car accident before let along being injured. She saw me through the whole process of getting me through the pit falls of dealing with the insurance company for medical care. JoAnn's expertise in handling these matters brought me a fair settlement from the other insurance company. Fortunately she handles other areas of the law and handled my new will and bankruptcy. I would recomend JoAnn Diaz to anyone.

JoAnn helped me at a time when no other attorney would even speak with me. My employer removed me from a position and wrongly accused me, but JoAnn believed I was was wrongfully removed and fought for me and won my case. I would highly recommend using her services for any and all of your legal services.

As a young woman, I knew very little about the judicial system. Melissa represented me in TWO cases one about child custody and a separate one about a domestic abuse case. Melissa truly listened and sympathized with my situation. She explained every legal procedure thoroughly and always took my feelings and wants into mind when deciding how to approach my case. I met with other lawyer before meeting Melissa who told me to lower my expectations. Melissa fought for what I deserved and was quick to take charge in the courtroom. BUT her special quality is that she will fight for what is right and fair. She is one of the good guys. I'm incredibly grateful and would recommend her to anyone looking for a family court lawyer.

She was amazing ever step of the way and not only was she my lawyer she became one of my very close friends. Not enough can be said about Mr. Carter’s professionalism both in and out of the courtroom or in this case virtual court room. If you ever find yourself coming out of an extremely toxic relationship and end up in a bogus domestic violence situation do yourself a favor and contact Mr. Carter first. The staff at Hoffman Dimuzio is very friendly and caring. Mr. Carter himself went above and beyond for me and the unfortunate situation I was put in to make sure everything was dismissed. Before and after every trial he would call to touch base or recap and was prompt with answering questions and proving advice. I came in needing a lawyer and left with someone who felt like a friend or family member. His understanding of the laws and your needs exceeded my expectations. He cares, he listens and takes action when needed. I hope to never need his services again but would not hesitate to use Mr. Carter if I ever did. Thank you Mr. Carter for everything.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Turnersville, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
