Since I was approaching retirement age, I decided to revisit my monthly alimony payments which was awarded to my ex-wife by the Courts. There were other factors involving my alimony which I required expertise and council. I interviewed five attorneys to ascertain if they understood the issues which I required resolve of and, to gain a "personal level of confidence" in the attorney which I will select. Specifically, I was seeking an attorney with whom I can easily interact with and conduct an open and honest dialog. Lastly, the selected attorney had to be certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Law Attorney and have keen acumen in the recently passed Alimony Reform Act. I was referred to Jeralyn Lawrence of Lawrence Law by an attorney with whom I dealt with in other legal matters and has earned my trust. When I interviewed Jeralyn to ascertain if she was the right fit for me, I was pleased with the outcome. Jeralyn "told me what I had to hear... not want I wanted to hear". She also earned my trust. After engaging her professional services, we discussed the current alimony laws and their recent reforms; we discussed a "Plan & Path Forward"; we discussed best and worst case scenarios and time lines; we discussed the pros and cons of taking my case in front of a Judge vs. 3rd party (neutral) mediation. Jeralyn provided great advice and options. And, Jeralyn was also open in discussing costs. She identified the effect on my legal fees if the best- or worst-case scenario were to become realized. Jeralyn's expertise with alimony law and its reformed was apparent when she scripted the Motion for the Court. It was accurate and was substantiated by referencing Case Law. The Motion which Jeralyn wrote "fought for me and my rights". Jeralyn guided me through the Court's system of Motions, replies, and ultimately through the mediation. In the end, her strengths in communication and negotiation with the opposing attorney and the mediator was apparent. Lastly, I wanted Jeralyn to support my request in assuring me that the decisions made by the mediator and the Court would a "win-win" for both my ex- and for me. When this was achieved, settlement came quickly. I suggest to those reading this recommendation that they avoid facing the "Stranger in the Black Robe". The outcome would no longer be in your control. Seek out a qualified attorney, like Jeralyn, to guide you through the legal process.
