Ray has done multiple real estate deals for me under less than perfect circumstances and has always come through. Do yourself a favor and have him on your side of the closing table.

Ray Miller was recommended to me through a mutual friend. Ray took great care of us while we were selling our rental home in Nutley. I would highly recommend him as he made the steps to the closing super easy. Thank you again for all your help.

I've had the pleasure of working with Ray on several real estate closings (both buy and sell side), each of which went very smoothly. Ray is thorough in his review of all documentation and makes sure no stone is left unturned. He's always there to answer my questions and address any concerns I may have as it relates to various nuances of the transaction. I know I can always count on Ray and look forward to continuing our working relationship. I would absolutely recommend Ray Miller to anyone who's buying or selling a home.

You exceeded all our expections in identifying the players, income streams (new word and concept for me), and court and sheriff executions. You outsmarted the people owing us the money from the sale of our business and we are now collecting checks every month which lifts a burden of financial problems and gives us a more positive outlook on our retirement years.

I like to take a moment out to speak on the Law office of Peter j. Lamont. We reached out to his office from Maryland to sell a home located in Newark New Jersey. The first line of duty person that we was put in contact with was a (Jacqueline) Gorges; she is the Senior Paralegal at the law office's. This lady "Jacqueline" spent the needed time with us explaining each and every question we had in detail "prior" to we settling on selecting a law office to represent us. This business gesture was not only huge to us but it made our selection a no brainer. The time spent to find a law office had now come to an end thankfully... The fact is; If a law office could choose to spend valuable time to answer questions; (in detail) without any commitment's from us... This made this "particular law office" the favorable choice easily. Additionally; after the fact; I learned that this Law office works with STARTUP BUSINESSES as well as TRADEMARK'S. I would not overlook this particular office to represent you! We can say from afar (Maryland) that we would do it again with the "same" law office because of Jacqueline Gorges unmatched; superb service. She made herself readily available and when she had other business where she could not be available... she put us in touch with others to make sure we were covered every step of the way. Each time she took the "initiative" to inform us in advance when she would not be available whenever possible. She's indeed an asset to this team... offering professionalism with an "easygoing" spirit that was displayed throughout the entire very stressful process. When searching for a law office; know that your search is over and the buck stops here!!! You're be in good hands with the law offices of Peter j. Lamont. I'm awaiting (Maryland) lawyers to join their team which will be an added plus if ever needed. Renee A. June 26th 2024

My wife made a few calls looking for the services of a local attorney to handle the sale of our house and the closing on our new home. My wife asked Jacqueline several questions. The second my wife ended the call she looked at me and said Jacqueline answered all my questions and she was very professional and nice let’s use Peter Lamont’s office. We had ups and downs in a long process of selling and buying. And trying to line up both closings on the same day hours apart. There were days my wife and I wanted to pull our hair out. I can’t tell you how great full we had Jacqueline in our corner. She was always on top of everything going on threw this long process. On the day of closing my attorney peter lamont and Jacqueline made both closings very smooth. I was in and out of the office with no surprises except the bottle of wine mr lamont gave me. I found the price was very fair and would definitely use the office again. From both my wife and I Jacqueline thanks for all you did it was a absolute pleasure to work with you.

Peter and his team worked with me through a very difficult time. They understood my position and were always available to explain and guide me. Peter made me feel as if I had worked with him before and always gave me 100% of his attention during calls. I highly recommend Peter and his team as I will use them for all of my legal needs going forward.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Poles as my attorney in a custody battle. Not only did Mr. Poles take my case on such short notice, he appeared in court for me with little notice as well. He came prepared, courteous and did everything he could for me and my children. He is very respectful, honest and experienced. I honestly could go on and on about how great he was and how happy I was to retain this law firm. He not only helped me navigate the court system, He helped me to successfully win the custody of my children back in a miraculous timely manner. I would recommend him over and over again! Also, his assistance were so lovely and wonderful and so helpful in my time of need.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wyckoff, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
