What can I say? The law firm of MDSAR has done it again. I was finally APPROVED for my Social Security Disability WITHOUT having to appear at the Administrative Law Judge hearing the day before it was scheduled, which was yesterday. Once I received the call from my Attorney Joseph Abrams this past Wednesday evening with the good news all I could do was cry a river of tears uncontrollably. It has been a long TWO YEARS of fighting and MDASR was by my side the entire time once again. I also need to shout out to Michelle Corbett and Natalie Dent for all their assistance. On September 11 2001 when our nation was attacked I was a Deputy Chief with the NYC Department of Sanitation. I was assigned to the WTC site to at first clear debris from roadways and begin the cleanup of the surrounding area . In 2009 I was appointed Director of the Bureau Of Cleaning and Collection at DSNY. It was my goal that I dreamed of throughout my career. In October 20011 I was diagnosed with Stage Two Prostrate Cancer. I began treatment in the spring of 2012. The World Trade Center Health Program determined that my cancer was the result of my exposure at The WTC site .After the ten week treatment period was over I began to have health issues resulting from radiation. Those issues continued to increase and I was forced to retire in 2014. At that time I was denied a WTC disability pension. In September of 2021 I was diagnosed with lymphoma. Once again the WTC Health Program determined that my cancer was the result of my exposure. Because of the pension option I chose I was concerned that my wife and four sons would be left with no financial support for the years I worked at DSNY. It was recommended to me that I contact The Law Firm of McIntyre Donahue Accardi Salmonson Riordan. I called and from that first phone call my experience throughout has been nothing but professional and just as important personal. From my first conversation with David Donohue who explained my options and asked me to submit a history of my experience and putting me in contact with Christina Molony who with her knowledge of the submitting process guided me through the paper work step by step I felt that I made the right choice. I felt both David and Christina were taking a personal interest in my situation. They both reinforced that when the Medical Board Hearing was set. Christina explained the process of the Zoom meeting. I’m 76 years old and what might be simple to others is not to me . She ensured me that I would be fine and even suggesting that if needed I could come to the office for the conference. Prior to and on the day of the Medical Board Hearing I spoke to David. He explained the process and what I might be expected to be asked . His advice which I respected was to be honest. Ten minutes before the Hearing was to begin David texted me to let me know he was linked in and waiting has I was. It met a lot to me that I was not alone. I would like to add that David Donohue was on vacation at the time . Once again this Law Firm took a personal interest on my behalf beyond what I might have expected.
