The rudest lawyer I ever heard of. Unkind, not empathetic, told my mother her case wasn’t as important as other cases he had. Downright mean. Unacceptable.

I would like to let people know of the services provided by The Center for Elder Law and Justice generally, and by Mr. Shapiro, Esq. specifically. I had heard of Mr. Shapiro through a neighbor who had hired him to obtain custody of her grandson. My neighbor convinced me he was well worth the money and I decided to take her advice and hire Mr. Shapiro. Much to my surprise, when I googled his name for contact info, I found that he worked for The Center for elder law and justice and there was no compensation requirement. In other words, I was assigned to Mr. Shapiro, a senior attorney who had left a 25 year successful private practice to work in service of elder law...for free! As a result, I was represented by an experienced attorney who helped me obtain temporary custody of my grandchildren while my daughter-in-law received help and support for her problem with an opioid addiction. Mine was/is a family in crisis and he treated our situation with grace and dignity. Obviously it was hard for me to share the struggles of my family and I so appreciated his non-judgemental stance and incredible knowledge and familiarity of the family court system. I felt like I had a million dollar attorney by my side as he negotiated a plan to keep my family together and safe. As we walked to the Court House, I couldn’t help be impressed by the many people who greeted Mr. Shapiro—he appeared to be well-known within the community. I thank my lucky stars that Buffalo has such an agency with the caliber of Mr. Shapiro’s experience and knowledge. Really, he would have been worth any amount of money...just as my neighbor had said. I hope he reads this and understands that his commitment to his clients is so deeply appreciated.

Mr. Shapiro was abrupt, condescending, intimidating, and downright rude when my mother and I had a legal consultation.  It is disturbing and disheartening to be treated so shabbily by one who is supposed to offer empathy and help.  I am shocked this man is allowed to conduct himself the way he does, particularly in an agency for elders. Mr. Shapiro may be well-versed in law, but a refresher course in human kindness should be in order.  As a result, we did not hire him.

David is the best. I saw the above review and figured it was from some crank. David handled my difficult case with grace and skill. I heard from so many elders in my support group how David handled their cases and led to successful results. This review above must be from some awful, stubborn, and downright goofy client. I've been in court with David and saw what he has to put up with in Family Court. Frankly, if you don't like your free, I said free, lawyer, the. Go and actually get your money and put it where your mouth is. David represented me in several matter because people file and file again. I just felt I needed to set the record straight about David, a wonderful and skilled attorney who really helped me through a very difficult time.

Very intimidating, rude, does not listen to his client. This lawyer is free for the elderly and uses his power to belittle his own clients. Does not listen, give advice nor wants to hear what the client has to say regarding the case. Does not have the knowledge on the case, forgets and gives wrong information. Actually was damaging to my case. I would never recommend him to represent a client. You would be better off begging, borrowing and stealing to pay for lawyer even if you are low income.
