I got a speeding ticket on June 2023 in Hauppauge NY that if convicted would carry 8 points on my driver's license. There were a few discrepancies with the ticket and so I wanted to have it reduced to a parking ticket or fight it to a trial in Hauppauge traffic court. I had multiple consultations with different lawyers and some did not want to take on my case as they alluded that the Hauppauge Traffic Court was extremely corrupt. The other lawyers say that the best they could do is have my ticket reduced from 8 to 4 points but they would not do a trial for the same reason of corruption in the court. However, I did not want to have a reduction in points. I wanted a parking ticket or a trial so I didn’t hire any of them. I reached out to McGuire Pelaez & Bennett PC in June 2023 and it took me almost 1 week just to have a consultation with a lawyer. I told them the details of my spending ticket and that I wanted it reduced to a parking ticket or have a trial but NOT a reduction to 4 points like what all the other lawyers promised. They told me that they would do their best and that their fee to negotiate the ticket would be $550 which is WAY more than what other lawyers were charging me. The other lawyers were charging $300 to $430. McGuire Pelaez & Bennett PC told me that if they were to go to court with my case it would be an additional $550. I agree and retain their services on June 23, 2023. At the end of the negotiation they took the VARY SAME deal I did NOT want of a point reduction to 4 points on my license and a $290 fine. When I confronted them about it they pretended like I did not tell them exactly what I wanted before they took my money and take the case. They gave me the run around after I told them to reopen my case and that I wanted a trial. Now I am stuck with 4 points on my license for the next 18 months and I could not get another lawyer to fix it because the case was closed. I would definitely NOT recommend this law firm! Update 8/22/2023 The statement written by Christopher P. McGuire in response to my Google review of McGuire, Pelaez & Bennett P.C. is not true. I was never given the choice to accept a negotiation plea deal or go to trial. The attorney accepted a plea deal without my approval. I was later given the "run around" when I asked him to reopen my case and get a trial date scheduled. My case was closed and there was nothing I could do about it.
