A little background on the situation.  I was charged with speeding 78 mph in a 45 mph zone.  The penalties for this ticket include 8 points on your NY driving record, a $688 fine, a $450 driver responsibility assessment, and a possible increase in your insurance premiums.  The NY DMV will suspend NY driving privileges if you accrue 11 points in any 18 month period and revoke NY driving privileges for 6 months if you accrue 3 or more speeds in any 18 month period.  The NY DMV will impose its own fine known as the driver responsibility assessment if you accrue 6 or more points in any 18 month period ($300 for the first 6 points and $75 for every point over 6).  Insurance companies are authorized under NY regulations to raise insurance premiums for any speeding conviction of 16 mph or more over the limit or 2 moving violation convictions in any 36 month period. Mr. Shelton was able to get the ticket reduced to a parking violation under VTL 1202(b)(2).  Parking tickets accrue no points so it will not adversely affect my driving record.  It also will not adversely affect my insurance premiums.  In fact, it will not even appear on my driving record.  This resolution also avoids the $450 New York driver responsibility assessment, reduces the fine and decreases the risk of receiving 3 speeds in any 18 month period. The total fine I was charged was $325 plus $400 for the retainer fee. This option with Mr. Shelton was most convenient for me since he went to court and represented me on my behalf and he was able to negotiate a great deal for me. Thanks to Mr. Lee Shelton, my 8 point speeding penalty [89mph in 55mph] was reduced to non-speeding disobeying traffic device violation which has a 2 point penalty. This is a very good outcome. I only had to pay a fine of 175$. If I had the 8 point penalty speeding violation instead, I would have had to pay a fine of at-least 693$ along with a driver responsibility fee of 450$ per year for 3 years.
