Where do I begin to thank the people who helped me after being hit by a car while crossing a street? Do I start with the stranger who took my hand and said, "Don't move; you will be okay," or with the doctors and nurses in the trauma center who kept me alive? Yes, they were all key to my care. However, after a few days, I found myself lying on my side and unable to move without assistance. To my surprise, my first phone call was from the hospital billing office. At that point, I knew I needed professional help. I could not be the one to deal with billing questions; I had to focus on recovery. My husband suggested a nearby lawyer, Patrick S. Owen, who sat with me at the hospital and calmed my concerns. After our meeting, all bills were sent directly to his office, where they were handled by Veronica, his legal secretary. Mr. Owen and Veronica worked side by side to deal with the insurance company, the hospital, the ambulance, and the rest of the medical bills. They were my voice when I struggled to speak, and I would like to thank them for helping in my time of need. They are still acting on my behalf, and they have my full and heartfelt recommendation.
