I went to Pahola for a consultation on my petition case. She was friendly, informative and knowledgeable. More importanly she spoke Spanish which is my first language. Working with a Latina attorney is certainly a plus since she can really understand exactly what I am going through.

I was referred to the attorney by a friend. I was in a very bad divorce. My ex husband is very well to do. He physically and mentally abused me, he was also very controlling for 21 years. I desperately wanted out. I went off my good friends recommendation During the course of waiting three years to mediate, I found that I was addicted to a prescription med for anxiety. The divorce had affected me in so many ways bc of having three children as well. I decided on my own to go to rehab to get off of the anxiety medication. I left the day I decided to do this and was leaving for Colorado quickly. My ex husband was actually very supportive through it and I asked him to let my attorney know & that I would be gone for 28 days. There was a lot of packing to do to get ready and to say goodbye to my children. When I returned from rehab I got a nasty message from Mrs. Smith that I didn’t tell her everything and was very embarrassed because my exs attorney explained to her that I had become sick. She did not like that. She was more concerned of how it made her look??? I was under the impression when someone is trying to get help from being sick that you have support by others. Not this attorney. She was very ugly and rude to me and went instantly to to remove herself from my case with a judge leaving me with no money for another retainer. She didn’t give me a dime back and she never did anything except ridicule me. She’s a very very ugly person. Her office is extensive unprofessional. Her right hand will gossip to you about all of her boss business and I never felt comfortable there. They are a joke.

I was looking for a Attorney to assist me with my Child Support case in Guilford County and Wendy came highly reccommended. I'm the Father in this case and yes I owe back Child Support. I do have a complicated case being that I have another CS case in another County in NC. I was not being notified of my court date(s) and there was a warrant issued for my arrest. I went to Wendy got all my documents to Her and told Her everything. The warrant ended up being dropped and I was issued another court date. Wendy looked over all of my paperwork including a new Modification of Child Support Order that I received to increase the CS amount to be added on my next courtdate. Wendy explained what could and could not be done. Because of Attorney Wendy, my Guilford County CS case is up to date and in order. I walked out of the courtroom for the first time feeling free of judgement. I am thankful to have Attorney Wendy represent me. If you have any questions about Family Law, and you need a Attorney to be honest and represent you to the fullest, you have to contact Attorney Wendy Hudson. Wendy Hudson is now my Family Law Attorney.

Ms. Wendy absolutely saved my life. After years of fighting a Angry Narcissist, myself and my children finally were saved by Ms. Wendy. Many years my children (now 14 and 12) as well as myself, have been emotionally, physically, and mentally abused by their Father. Back and forth and in and out of court for years trying to get me handcuffed/jailed and fined/held in contempt of court behind nothing. I've hired lawyers and they all let me down, not listening to my side and not reading emails etc. Until God sent me to WENDY JEAN SMITH!!!! This action filed against me this time was due to COVID-19/Visitation initially. False accusations by the Father of my children against me and also He ended up filing another Contempt motion to add on to the first motion. Ms. Wendy stepped in and handled both motions and showed that she understood me, she listened to me, and never blew me off!!! My Children's Father came to court ready to bully and LIE on the stand and Ms. Wendy was ready and prepared to fulfill Her duties. From asking the detailed questions during our two-day trial, and me not even having to get on the stand. At that moment I was already pleased and satisficed with Ms. Wendy's representation no matter what decision was going to be made. The Judge was ready to enter the Verdict... On all Contempt Motions..... NOT GUILTY!!! "IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!" I wanted to scream, as tears rolled down my face. My children are now more confident and due to that one win, now has more trust in our Justice System. I/We now have a new and well loved Family Lawyer!!! You want the JOB DONE and DONE RIGHT, Ms. Wendy Jean Smith is the one for you. This review can not express how pleased I am with the results of Attorney Wendy Jean Smith.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Archdale, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
