We hired Andrea Fink to finalize the adoption of our daughter. We had been put through every hoop and hurdle and desperately needed someone to take control of the situation and get things done! Andrea did just that! Within 6 months of hiring Andrea, our adoption was complete. She is extremely knowledgeable, easy to talk to and very responsive. She not only made things happen in a timely manner, but treated us with compassion and respect. We highly recommend Andrea and would absolutely use her again!

Andi is the best lawyer I've ever worked with. I lost a case in San Diego to keep my daughter in California, and when I moved I was recommended to Andi to help get joint custody. She walked me through all the scenarios, best and worst case. She kept in constant contact with me, gave sound advice, and most importantly, fought for my daughter and me like it was her own family on the line. I couldn't recommend her more. After being disillusioned with my lawyers and the system in California, and glad I was lucky enough to find Andi in North Carolina.

After a 3-year quagmire with an attempted and unjust foreclosure on a business property, Ms. Wright negotiated a remarkably beneficial sale without compromising my position, terms, principles and of equal importance, negotiated an incredible outcome that protected my other contractual agreements with the banking institution along with the terms of my property buyer. After reviewing the email exchanges between the bank and my attorney, i realized the skill of this attorney ... it's hard to explain the artistry and performance of such wise counsel.... Morever, The process was certainly facilitated because Ms. Wright kept me informed andprepared for every step over an interminable period. The legal service was exquisite and the price was exceedingly affordable. Highly recommended!

We have worked with Walker Divenere Wright Attorneys at Law on various occasions throughout the years. Our experience in dealing with them has been very rewarding. From the closing to our homes in Seven Devils and Laurel Ridge to recuperating funds that were fraudulently kept by a real estate company, they have always been able to resolve our problems. Their professionalism and dedication shows in their work. We cannot stop saying nice things about them because they deserve it.

A trip to the twilight zone of bad relationships found our college student deep in a serious situation. Matt Rupp, took our call, spoke with the parties, gave quick, on point, thorough professional advice, followed up, and like a bomb-squad expert helped diffuse the situation. Well placed, professional advice in real-time averted possible disaster. A caring pro.

I recently hired Matt, and am more than happy to have had him represent me. I had looked at a few different lawyers and ultimately chose to go with him on account that he seemed to genuinely care, and had no judgment over my sensitive situation. I appreciate that he was accommodating to the fact that I live two hours or so from his office in Watauga County, and he remained patient and attentive as my case was drawn out for ten months. Matt is great at what he does, and I would definitely recommend him.

Kim Eggers is the most intelligent, hardworking, and caring lawyer I have ever known. She took care of two different cases for me in which both she was on top of all issues involved with the cases. She was extremely professional and knowledgeable in the subject matter at hand. When needed she carried out extensive research to deliver the best outcome possible. In addition these great qualities she is both honest and respectable. This is the attorney you need. I will alway take her advise above any other attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boone, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
